BACKGROUND: Cicatricial pemphigoid (benign mucous membrane pemphigoid) is an autoimmune vesiculobullous disease that affects mucosal tissues of adults and rarely presents in children. Only 9 cases in the English literature have reported cicatricial pemphigoid in children, primarily as oral mucosal lesions. The authors describe a case of localized refractory idiopathic gingivitis in a 29-year-old patient that was successfully treated with hydrogen peroxide (Superoxol, Sultan Chemists, Inc.). The gingivitis was refractory to previous oral hygiene measures and was persistent in the face of meticulous oral hygiene. This case illustrates a successful treatment measure for an uncommon clinical challenge.

This study was designed to determine the association between oral hygiene status and necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (NUG), as well as the severity of NUG in Nigerian children. Triclosan is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent widely used in oral care products. A 65-year-old female complained of diffuse and rapidly progressive gingival enlargement. Gingival overgrowth can be caused by medication, infections or systemic diseases. In case of generalized, quickly progressive gingival enlargement, acute myeloid leukemia should be considered. Blood results showed an acute myelomonocytic leukemia. Gingival recession is an intriguing and complex phenomenon. Recession frequently disturbs patients because of sensitivity and esthetics. Many surgical techniques have been introduced to treat gingival recession, including those involving autogenous tissue grafting, various flap designs, orthodontics, and guided tissue regeneration. This article describes different clinical approaches to treat gingival recession with emphasis on techniques that show promising results and root coverage.
