BACKGROUND: Gonarthrosis and diabetes mellitus are two diseases that are increasingly being linked. The aim of this study was to quantify serum levels of Gal-3, pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines (including their ratios and correlations), and participant's condition (pain, stiffness, functional limitations) in gonarthrosis patients with and without diabetes mellitus.

No reliable culture system exists for B-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Recently we found that many different mature B-cell malignancies proliferate upon stimulation via the CD40 antigen, and this led us to investigate whether a similar CD40 activation on ALL cells could also induce proliferation. Effects of recombinant human interleukins on hematopoiesis were explored by using suspension cultures of mononuclear cells of human umbilical-cord blood and bone marrow.
