PURPOSE: We describe our technique of and single institutional experience with purely laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for renal tumor, wherein the focus is to duplicate established open techniques of oncologic nephron sparing surgery.

In a female patient with a solitary kidney the authors achieved a maximum drainage by means of an ileoneocystostomy comprehending the whole calyx system with lateral drainage between kidney and urinary bladder. The indication for this intervention was made in a much extended calyx system with stone formation, in which case the ureter and the urethra remained intact. The result of the operation and the function of the drainage were satisfactory after 2 years.

Ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) disruption seldom occurs in patients with blunt abdominal trauma. We report 2 cases that fulfill some of the criteria for the diagnosis of Bartter's syndrome and were associated with marked radiological changes. Both patients demonstrated distortion of the caliceal pattern with medullary cavities and loss of cortical substance in the absence of vesicoureteral reflux. In this study, we aimed to demonstrate the presence of Alpha (α) 1 receptors and subtypes in human pelvis and calyces, because an agent to facilitate kidney stone movement and help decrease pain may be an α 1 adrenergic blocker, as used in ureteral stones. Twenty patients who applied to our clinic for renal cell carcinoma were enrolled to the study. All patients underwent radical nephrectomy. After the specimens were removed, excisional biopsies were performed on healthy pelvises and calyces. Calculi in calyceal diverticula or behind stenotic renal infundibula are generally managed with percutaneous extraction. Three children with equivocal pelviureteric junction obstruction are described. The renal pelves were only slightly dilated and emptied well with posture change or diuresis, but there was disproportionate dilatation of the calices. On direct puncture perfusion of the pelvis there were repeated high pressure contractions which resulted in emptying, but basal pressure remained normal. This condition appears to be analogous to the partially obstructed but compensated bladder.
