BACKGROUND: Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used to support digital health communication, yet their reliability in patient-facing cardiovascular imaging education remains uncertain. Cardiovascular imaging involves complex terminology and procedural details that many patients struggle to understand, creating a need for accurate, clear, and reassuring explanations. While prior evaluations of conversational AI have focused primarily on diagnostic reasoning or clinician-oriented tasks, few studies have systematically compared contemporary LLMs in their ability to communicate effectiv…

Large language models (LLMs), a type of artificial intelligence (AI), have been applied to various fields of dentistry in recent years. Although several reviews have examined AI applications in paediatric dentistry, most have focused on diagnostic assistance, and none have comprehensively addressed LLM use, including not only dental professionals but also patients or their guardians. PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched in September 2025 using the terms "Pediatric dentistry" AND "ChatGPT" OR "Gemini" OR "Claude" OR "Copilot" OR "DeepSeek." Of the 262 articles identified, 30 met the…

The introduction of foundational models, specifically large language models, has promised a health care transformation. However, the field is rapidly evolving toward autonomous agent systems, defined as artificial intelligence (AI) entities that perceive and react to their environment to achieve specific goals-representing a paradigm shift from passive information retrieval to proactive, goal-oriented clinical assistance. Agentic AI systems transcend static knowledge limitations through core capabilities including persistent memory systems that maintain context across patient encounters, knowl…

BACKGROUND: Pharmacists' prescription review is key to medication safety, but rising numbers of outpatient prescriptions and expanding formularies leave less time per case, increasing error risk. Large language models (LLMs) show promise, yet two barriers hinder routine use: first, most systems rely on cloud-based commercial models, risking data breaches by transmitting protected patient information externally, and second, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines used to reduce hallucinations depend on complex text vectorization and vector databases, which hospitals with limited IT resou…

BACKGROUND: Consensus conferences guide treatment where evidence is ambiguous; lacking ground truth, artificial intelligence is unvalidated there. We evaluated concordance between large language models (LLMs) and expert votes at the 2025 St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four LLMs (Claude Opus 4.1, GPT-5, Gemini Flash 2.5, DeepSeek V3.2) each answered 81 multiple-choice questions once (324 responses). Outcomes were first-choice agreement (LLM selected the panel's modal option) and top-2 agreement (either of its two leading options; 66 questions with ≥3 …

Specialized clinical artificial intelligence (AI) tools are entering medical practice despite scarce independent evaluation. We quantitatively evaluate two clinical AI tools, OpenEvidence and UpToDate Expert AI, built on large language models (LLMs) against three frontier LLMs: GPT-5.2, Gemini 3.1 Pro and Claude Opus 4.6. Our evaluation has three stages: (1) 500 MedQA questions testing medical knowledge, (2) 500 HealthBench items measuring alignment with clinicians and (3) the real clinical queries (RCQ) benchmark, built from 100 de-identified queries from physicians to a general-purpose langu…

How the brain organizes semantic information is one of the most challenging and expansive questions in cognitive neuroscience. Prior studies have shed light on how the brain represents concepts, but where relations are represented, independently of concept information, remains unclear. To examine this issue, we submitted short texts to a contemporary large language model and extracted relational embeddings for scene-object pairs based on the model's residual stream activity. Using behavioral data (n = 636), we found that these embeddings capture independent information about scenes and objects

PURPOSE: Most clinical evaluations of large language models assess factual recall rather than the multi-step reasoning behind operative plans. Reasoning-tuned models, post-trained to generate explicit intermediate reasoning before answering, may better approximate surgical decision-making. We compared two such models from different development ecosystems, OpenAI o1 and DeepSeek R1, on complex spine cases.
METHODS: Ten synthetic vignettes spanning deformity, degenerative, urgent, and cervical pathology were analysed; an eleventh was excluded owing to a survey error. Both models received identi…

Cold-start compound-protein interaction (CPI) prediction remains a major challenge in drug discovery, as models must generalize to unseen co … mpound-protein combinations. The framework further integrates general semantic knowledge learned by large language models with task-specific features through dynamic gating, while bidirectional cross-attention and bilinear pooling are used to capture high-order interaction patterns. Extensive evaluations across multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate that SACS-CPI cons …

BACKGROUND: Open-access endoscopy relies on referrals that are manually vetted, which is a resource consuming process, with potential biases. While Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated potential in medical utilities, their ability to autonomously manage complex referral logistics remains understudied. We assessed whether LLMs can provide accurate recommendations on gastrointestinal endoscopy referrals. METHODS: We extracted 200 multilingual endoscopy referrals with structured and unstructured medical data. We evaluated OpenAI’s o3 and Google’s Gemini 2.5-pro. A prompt was tuned on a …

BACKGROUND: Headache disorders are a major cause of disability worldwide. In routine practice, diagnosis and guideline-based management are difficult because symptoms can overlap between primary and secondary headaches, and clinicians must combine clinical, imaging, and pathological information. Large language models (LLMs) are being proposed to assist clinical reasoning, but their performance on headache cases and their sensitivity to prompting have not been systematically assessed.
METHODS: We evaluated seven leading LLMs using 13 headache cases from the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJ…
