Evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of the 595 nm pulsed dye laser system for treating capillary malformations.

Capillary malformations are the most prevalent low-flow vascular abnormalities. We present the case of a 30-year-old woman with a lateral capillary malformation. Dermoscopy showed an erythematous background and rare telangiectatic vessels for less than 5-10% of the entire area examined. The patient underwent a single treatment session with a 595 nm pulsed dye laser (PDL). An excellent immediate response was observed at the end of the session, with a noticeable reduction in the capillary malformation confirmed at clinical follow-up two months later. Dermatoscopic and 3D photographic evaluation

Pulsed-dye laser as an effective treatment for recalcitrant granulomatous rosacea and a potential regulator of CXCL9 expression.

Granulomatous rosacea (GR) is a rare and distinct variant of rosacea. We report three cases of recalcitrant GR successfully treated with pulsed-dye laser (PDL) and provide experimental evidence supporting its potential as a treatment option. PDL treatment demonstrated remarkable efficacy in the three clinical cases, despite their resistance to conventional therapies. Chemokine ligand 9 (CXCL9), a key chemokine involved in inflammation and granuloma formation, was found to be increased in skin sections from all three patients. In vitro experiments using human monocytes and dermal fibroblasts de

Topical metformin suppresses angiogenesis pathways induced by pulsed dye laser irradiation in animal models.

Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is the first-line treatment for port-wine stain (PWS). However, only a small portion of the lesions could be completely cleared by PDL treatment, which might be related to the regeneration and revascularization of the vascular structures after laser irradiation. Recently, it is believed that the suppression of regeneration and revascularization of photocoagulated blood vessels can achieve a better therapeutic outcome. We use rabbit ear and SD rat as the animal models to investigate whether PDL-induced angiogenesis can be suppressed by topical metformin. Our results showe

Short pulse intense pulsed light versus pulsed dye laser for the treatment of facial redness.

Treating diffuse facial redness with an intense pulsed light (IPL) source usually requires multiple sessions and may not achieve complete clearance. The 595 nm pulsed dye laser (PDL) enjoys a good reputation for reducing facial redness with non-purpuric settings. The objective of this study was to compare facial redness reduction using these two devices. After establishing the lowest light dose able to achieve transient purpura for the same pulse width of 1,5 ms with each technology, right and left sides of the face were randomly assigned for each type of treatment. There were two treatment se

The effectiveness of a 595 nm pulsed-dye-laser in the treatment of surgical scars following a knee arthroplasty.

Background: A knee arthroplasty results in a long vertical scar on the knee and has a high risk for the development of hypertrophic or keloid scarring. The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy and safety of the use of a 595 nm pulsed-dye-laser (PDL) for this type of scar. Methods: This randomized, controlled study was conducted in 40 patients (41 scars) with postoperative knee arthroplasties. Each scar was divided at the midline into two sections and randomized into a laser treated half and a controlled half. The treated half has received three treatments with a 595 nm PDL (10 mm

Prevention or treatment of hypertrophic burn scarring: a review of when and how to treat with the pulsed dye laser.

The purpose of this review is to investigate the use of Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) as a therapeutic tool for hypertrophic burns scarring. The difference between keloids and hypertrophic scars is first described. The review then outlines the progress and assessment of hypertrophic scars for burns patients and the problem of their clinical management. The assessment using both objective and subjective measurements for complete account of hypertrophic scars is explained. The efficacy of PDL for both prevention and treatment is summarised for all hypertrophic scarring and the various laser treatment p

Acquired port wine stains: clinical and psychological assessment and response to pulsed dye laser therapy.

Nineteen patients are presented with acquired port wine stains. Acquired port wine stains are uncommon vascular lesions with the appearance of a congenital port wine stain but onset after birth. This is the largest group of patients reported to date. The acquired port wine stain was on the head and neck in 17 patients and in six this was associated with preceding trauma. Psychological assessments in adult patients showed similar morbidity to that seen in patients with congenital port wine stains. This morbidity was improved with successful laser treatment. Pulsed dye laser therapy resulted in

In vitro and clinical feasibility study with an over-the-wire delivery system for pulsed dye laser angioplasty.

The suitability of a pulsed dye laser (504 nm) in experimental and clinical angioplasty was investigated. In an experimental study, the ablation thresholds were 3 J/cm2 +/- 8 (mean +/- standard deviation) for fibrofatty plaque and 25 J/cm2 for calcified tissues under saline. At a radiant exposure of 10 J/cm2 the etch rates were 1.7 microns per pulse +/- 0.3 for media, 2.8 microns/pulse +/- 0.4 for normal intima, and 3.9 microns/pulse +/- 1.1 for fibrofatty plaque (P less than .05). Pressure wave effects with a separation of tissue layers were predominantly localized at the internal elastic lam

Effect of the topical anesthetic EMLA on the efficacy of pulsed dye laser treatment of port-wine stains.

EMLA cream (Eutectic Mixture of Local Anesthetics) is a new topical anesthetic composed of 25 mg lidocaine and 25 mg prilocaine in an oil-in-water emulsion cream. It has been found to be very effective for local anesthesia prior to venepuncture, minor surgical procedures, and pulsed dye laser (PDL) therapy for port-wine stains (PWS) in children. However, since EMLA may cause vasoconstriction of cutaneous vessels, we tried to determine whether pretreatment with EMLA decreases the efficacy of subsequent PDL treatment. We report eight patients between the ages of 4 and 32 years with PWS who recei

ZnCl2-activated laser-induced graphene from potato skins for Congo red dye adsorption.

This study investigates the adsorption of Congo red (CR) dye onto laser-induced graphene derived from potato skins (LIGPS), a graphene-like material produced via rapid and cost-effective CO2 direct laser writing. Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the graphitic nature of LIGPS. Activation with ZnCl₂ (LIGPS50) altered the morphology of the material, as observed in SEM images. Additionally, ZnCl₂ activation significantly increased the surface area from 11.256 to 126.696 m2 g⁻1, total pore volume from 0.016 to 0.253 cm3 g⁻1, and average pore diameter from 4.82 to 7.99 nm.
