Evaluation of the soft tissue facial profile in different skeletal malocclusions in relation to age.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to assess the thickness of the soft tissue facial profile (STFP) in relation to the skeletal malocclusion, age and gender. METHODS: All patients, aged 7-35 years, who were seeking orthodontic treatment at the Department of Orthodontics, Medical University of Warsaw between 2019 and 22 were included in the study. All patients had lateral head radiographs taken before the treatment. The cephalometric analysis was performed including the STFP analysis. The patients were allocated to one of six groups based on age and skeletal relations (ANB angle). The minimu

Clinical effects of twin-block combined with maxillary expansion on the upper airway in adolescents with Class II malocclusion.

BACKGROUND: Class II malocclusion, particularly class II division 1, poses a significant orthodontic challenge with implications for both aesthetics and health. This study aimed to explore the impact of twin-block (TB) combined with maxillary expansion treatment (TB-ME) on upper airway dimensions and inflammatory profiles in adolescents with skeletal Class II Division 1 malocclusion in adolescent. METHODS: Ninety-two eligible patients were randomly assigned to two groups: TB-ME treatment and traditional McLaughlin Bennett Trevisi (MBT) straight-wire orthodontic treatment (Control). Cephalomet

Cephalometric traits of class II division 2 mal-occlusion among Bengalis in India.

Numerous cephalometric studies have been conducted to assess the features of class II division 2 malocclusions since the release of Angle's description of malocclusion types; nonetheless, disagreements persist. Therefore, it is of interest to examine the cephalometric features of Class II/2 malocclusions in patients aged 8 to 24 at Burdwan Dental College and Hospital, given that a significant proportion of patients, including adults seeking orthodontic treatment, have this malocclusion. Each lateral cephalogram was traced both digitally and manually using the Nemo Ceph Software System. Thirty-

Jaw Growth and Development in Class II Division I Malocclusion Children Using the Myobrace® Muscle Function Appliance.

AIM: Class II Division I malocclusion is common in pediatric orthodontics, and is often associated with malocclusion and poor muscle functionality. However, research on post-treatment changes in maxillomandibular dimensions, excluding normal development influences, is limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of Myobrace® appliance and targeted muscle functional training on maxillomandibular dimensions in children with Class II Division I malocclusion, compared to directed oral muscle training alone. METHODS: This retrospective study included 96 children with Class II Di

Osseous changes of the mandibular condyle affect backward-rotation of the mandibular ramus in Angle Class II orthodontic patients with idiopathic condylar resorption of the temporomandibular joint.

Objective: To evaluate whether osseous changes of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) condyle affect backward rotation of the mandibular ramus in Angle Class II orthodontic patients with idiopathic condylar resorption (ICR). Methods: Twenty Japanese women with Class II malocclusion with ICR (ICR group) and 24 women with Class II malocclusion without ICR (non-ICR group) were examined. Pre-treatment panoramic radiographs were used to measure condylar ratios. Pre-treatment lateral cephalograms were used to evaluate maxillofacial morphology. Results: The ICR group had a significantly smaller condyla

The effectiveness of the total-maxillary-arch-distalization approach in treating class II division 1 malocclusion: A systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this review is to assess the effect of total maxillary arch distalization (TMAD) treatment on the dental, skeletal, soft tissues, and airways during non-extraction camouflage treatment of class II division 1 patients. METHODS: We performed a systematic review of the published data in four electronic databases up to April 2023. We considered studies for inclusion if they were examining the effects of TMAD during treatment of class II division 1 malocclusion in the permanent dentition. Study selection, data extraction, risk of bias assessment, and assessment of the s

Six years long term evaluation of a class II division 1 patient treated with Herbst appliance and 2 miniscrews in the lower arch as anchorage reinforcement: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Efficacy of orthopaedic treatment of class II growing patients have been reported to be partially effective, depending on appliance efficacy, patient compliance, growth spurt and other variables. Different approaches have been proposed both removable and fix, with different results, and a dento-alveolar compensation was always reported. In order to limit or avoid such dental compensation skeletal anchorage reinforcement of functional appliances have been proposed, with promising results. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present report is to evaluate the dento-skeletal effects after 6 yea

Technical Variants of Mandibular Median Distraction.

Distraction of the mandibular symphysis, initially described by Guerrero, is often indicated in instances of osseous deficiency in the anterior mandible with associated tooth-jaw discrepancy. The authors describe a technique, combined with orthodontic treatment, which offers a safe and reliable alternative to avulsions and coronoplasty. Three operative techniques are outlined in detail.

Asymmetry in Class II subdivision malocclusion: Assessment based on 3D surface models.

INTRODUCTION: There is currently no consensus in the literature whether the aetiology of a Class II subdivision is dental, skeletal or both. The aim of this study was to identify and quantify skeletal and dental asymmetries in Class II subdivision malocclusions. METHODS: CBCTs from 33 Class II subdivision malocclusion patients were used to construct 3D volumetric label maps. Eighteen landmarks were identified. The original scan and associated 3D volumetric label map were mirrored. Registration of the original and mirrored images relative to the anterior cranial base, maxilla and mandible were
