Mandibular osteosarcoma in a nutria (Myocastor coypus).

A four-year-old neutered male nutria (Myocastor coypus) was presented for a one-day history of lethargy and anorexia. A right-sided facial swelling and loose right mandibular fourth molar that exuded caseous exudate from the root were noted; however, the animal continued to decline despite removal of the affected tooth and antibiotic and anti-inflammatory therapy. Radiographs showed a lytic proliferative bony lesion on the right mandible that appeared to expand in size over the course of a week. Due to its declining clinical condition and poor response to therapy, the animal was euthanized. Ne

Long-Term Results of Mandibular Reconstruction of Continuity Defects with Fibula Free Flap and Implant-Borne Dental Rehabilitation.

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the retrospective outcomes of implant-borne dental rehabilitation in patients with mandibular defects reconstructed with a fibula free flap. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with segmental mandibular defects were enrolled in this cohort study. Defects in these patients were caused by oral neoplasm, trauma, and osteoradionecrosis. The patients were treated with a fibula free flap procedure and dental implant-borne prostheses between 1988 and 2010. Clinical and radiographic data were evaluated; Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Poisson regression analysis were used

NEOPLASIA AND PROLIFERATIVE LESIONS IN FREE-RANGING MOUNTAIN AND GRAUER'S GORILLAS (GORILLA BERINGEI).

There are no published data on the occurrence of neoplasia in wild great apes of any species. The aim of this study was to utilize postmortem and histopathology reports collected from wild human-habituated mountain gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei) and Grauer's gorillas (Gorilla beringei graueri) to determine both the incidence and types of spontaneous neoplasms and proliferative lesions that occur in these species. Pathology records of 194 mountain gorillas and 12 Grauer's gorillas necropsied from 1985 to 2020 were examined for all cases of neoplasia or hyperplastic/proliferative disease.

Benign osteoblastoma associated with an aneurysmal bone cyst of the mandibular ramus and condyle.

This article reviews the clinical behavior, the histologic conditions, and the treatment of a benign osteoblastoma associated with an aneurysmal bone cyst of the mandibular condyle and ramus. A 14-year-old boy, otherwise healthy, was referred for pain and enlargement in his right temporomandibular joint-cheek region. The swelling was firm and tender, a slight facial asymmetry was present, and the mouth-opening capacity was reduced. During a 6-weeks period from the primary examination to surgery the lesion expanded extensively, anesthesia appeared in the right inferior alveolar nerve and a late

A benign appearing metastatic breast carcinoma to the mandible: A case report.

Metastasis of breast carcinoma to the oral cavity is extremely rare as compared to metastasis to the lung and liver. The non-specific presentation of metastatic lesions clinically and radiographically also pose a diagnostic challenge. We present an interesting case of metastatic carcinoma to the right mandible which was provisionally diagnosed as a benign lesion of the alveolar ridge.

An Oroauricular Fistula After Mandibular Osteosarcoma Resection.

Bone tumors are rare malignancies and osteosarcoma is the most common malignant bone tumor. However, only 6% of all osteosarcomas occur in the mandible and maxilla 1. The location of these tumors also presents a unique set of challenges during resection and repair when compared to long bone tumors.

Sialadenopapillary ductal tumor: Unifying sialadenoma papilliferum-like intraductal papillary tumor and tubulopapillary hidroadenoma-like tumor of the mandible - Report of an additional case.

Sialadenoma papilliferum-like intraductal papillary tumor (SP-IPT) and tubulopapillary hidroadenoma-like tumor of the mandible (TPHLTM) are rare lesions with preferential intraoral involvement and variable clinical behavior. Several studies show that SP, SP-IPT, and TPHLTM share similar morphological features and identical genetic mutations, most commonly BRAF V600E mutation, suggesting close relationship. Recently, a study proposes classifying SP-IPT and TPHLTM under the term "sialadenopapillary ductal tumor" (SDT), which seems to best reflect its clinicopathological spectrum. To date, to the

Severe necrotizing stomatitis and osteomyelitis after chemotherapy for acute leukaemia.

BACKGROUND: Leukaemia is a malignant neoplasm characterized by clonal proliferation of white blood cells within the bone marrow. Despite an increase in the white blood cell count, the leukaemic leukocytes are non-functional. The oral complications arising in leukaemic patients can be attributed to the direct and indirect effects of immunosuppressive chemotherapy. METHODS: This case report describes severe maxillary and mandibular necrotizing stomatitis and osteomyelitis in a young female patient after chemotherapy for acute leukaemia. On physical examination, the patient presented malnourishe

Mandibular metastasis of invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Metastasis of breast carcinoma to the oral cavity is an uncommon event, and mandibular involvement is even rarer. This case is notable owing to the delayed occurrence of mandibular metastasis 6 years after the primary diagnosis, highlighting its aggressive behavior, which resulted in a pathological mandibular fracture. Reporting such rare presentations can aid clinicians in identifying atypical metastatic patterns in breast cancer survivors. CASE PRESENTATION: A 45 year-old Persian female with a history of invasive ductal breast carcinoma, diagnosed initially and treated 6 years e

Feline Lower-Lip Apocrine Sweat Gland Adenocarcinoma with Mandibular Nodal Metastasis: A Case Report.

Apocrine sweat gland adenocarcinoma is an uncommon feline adnexal neoplasm, and lower-lip involvement is rarely documented. A 14-year-old spayed female Siamese cat was evaluated for a firm 1.3 cm right lower-lip mass at a documented hemorrhagic lesion site. Approximately 1 year earlier, the lesion was fluctuant and superficially erosive to ulcerative; fine-needle aspiration yielded bloody fluid with cytologically nondiagnostic material. The lesion reportedly subsided after empirical treatment, but reassessment, tissue diagnosis, and objective confirmation of resolution were not performed. Cyto

Oral histiocytic sarcoma in a cat with mandibular invasion and regional lymph node metastasis.

Case summaryAn 11-year-old female spayed domestic medium-hair cat presented for dental prophylaxis, at which time no oral mass was appreciated. Fifteen days after a dental cleaning, a mass expanding the oral mucosa of the rostral mandible was identified. An incisional biopsy revealed that the oral mucosa was infiltrated by neoplastic round-to-spindloid mesenchymal cells arranged in streams and small, dense aggregates consistent with an undifferentiated sarcoma. The patient was managed medically for approximately 6 months following the diagnosis, but, owing to declining health, euthanasia was e

Epithelioid Haemangioendothelioma of the mandibular gingiva: case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm that exhibits the potential for recurrence and metastasis but rarely involves the oral cavity. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report the management and long term follow up of recurrent EHE in a 23- year-old woman. The lesion initially presented as a small area of erythematous gingival swelling with localised bone loss around the lower anterior teeth. It was treated by buccal and lingual stripping of the gingival tissues. The patient suffered local recurrence after 7 years and was treated with a wider surgical excision

A spectrum of application of autogenous costochondral grafts.

Autogenous costochondral grafts have found application in 26 variegated cases of congenital dysplasia, ankylosis, neoplastic disease, osteoarthritis, and post-traumatic dysfunction. The authors' experience with the grafting procedure has been generally favourable, but various difficulties have also arisen. There is a cursory discussion on the physiological superiority of rib cartilage grafts over those of other autogenous joints in reconstruction of the temporomandibular articulation.
