Invasive breast cancer with osseous metaplasia is rare. Here we report two cases of metaplastic breast carcinoma with extensive osseous differentiation. Case 1: The patient was a 60-year-old woman with a right breast tumor, about 4 cm in diameter. Mammogram and ultrasound presented an irregular-shaped mass suspected for malignancy. Core needle biopsy confirmed invasive carcinoma and the patient underwent a modified radical mastectomy. Case 2: The patient was a 48-year-old woman with a left breast tumor, about 3 cm in diameter. Mammogram demonstrated a well-circumscribed mass with extensive den

A Treatment by a Bile Duct Stent Obtaining High Efficacy: Katsuhisa Enomoto, Sadao Amano and Kenichi Sakurai (Division of Breast and Breast cancer hepatic metastasis with icterus is poor in prognosis and an active treatment is hardly performed. However, we improved patients' QOL by inserting a bile duct stent as a topical treatment. CASE 1: A 63-year-old woman was seen having left breast cancer. We performed a modified radical mastectomy and axillary lymph node in January 1989. Since then, we continued chemotherapy and hormonal therapy. In the 16th year after the operation, we confirmed a live

The results of radiation therapy alone or combined with surgery and/or chemotherapy are reported for 47 patients who presented with local and/or regional recurrence without evidence of distant metastases following initial management of adenocarcinoma of the breast with radical or modified radical mastectomy (43) or simple mastectomy (4). Patients were treated between October 1964 and March 1983 at the University of Florida; all have a 2-year minimum follow-up and 42/47 (89%) have had follow-up for greater than or equal to 5 years. The overall actuarial local-regional control rates were 80% at

BACKGROUND: Primary neuroendocrine carcinoma of the breast (NECB) represents an exceedingly rare entity, comprising less than 0.5% of all breast carcinomas and approximately 1% of all neuroendocrine neoplasms. The 2019 WHO classification defines NECB as tumors expressing neuroendocrine markers in > 90% of tumor cells with morphological features resembling neuroendocrine tumors of other anatomical sites.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old postmenopausal female presented with a palpable left breast mass. Clinical examination revealed a 2 × 3 cm firm, poorly circumscribed mass at the 9 o'clock pos

Lymphangiosarcoma, or Stewart-Treves syndrome, is a rare and aggressive malignancy. It is associated with poor prognosis due to its high risk of recurrence and metastasis. This case report highlights the surgical challenges faced in managing lymphangiosarcoma. We present a case of a woman in her 60s who underwent modified radical mastectomy and adjuvant therapy for breast carcinoma. She developed lymphangiosarcoma of the upper limb and underwent limb disarticulation. 6 months later, she presented with recurrent angiosarcoma at the amputation site. A wide local excision was performed, followed b

Lymphangiosarcoma (LAS) is an aggressive, malignant vascular tumor following long-lasting chronic lymphedema. Patients with LAS demonstrate a history of breast cancer treated by radical mastectomy in the majority of patients. In the 1960s the incidence of LAS in patients with a 5-year survival after radical mastectomy varied from 0.07 to 0.45%. Today, due to changes in the operative techniques of breast cancer, less chronic lymphedema is seen with only a scant number of LAS patients. The etiology of this enigmatic tumor is not yet completely understood. Histologically, LAS arises from vascular

We report a case of invasive breast cancer in a 62-year-old female patient with Cowden's disease. A left modified radical mastectomy was performed and histopathology of the tumor showed invasive ductal carcinoma, histological grade 3, without lymph node metastasis. The patient had a past history of endometrial cancer at 55 but did not have a family history of malignant disease. Goiter was palpable but aspiration cytology revealed no malignancy. There were several papillomas on the oral mucosa and multiple papillomatous lesions on the right femur. Barium X-ray and endoscopic examination reveale

This case series describes 3 cases in which ultrasound-guided intercostobrachial perineural injection was used for intercostobrachial neuralgia, a common cause of postmastectomy pain syndrome. All cases had undergone modified radical mastectomy with axillary lymph node dissection for breast cancer. Two cases developed axillary and unilateral chest wall pain. The third case initially presented with axillary pain and lateral shoulder pain 1 year out from radical mastectomy. After a cervical epidural steroid injection, her lateral shoulder pain resolved, but she continued to have residual chest w

We reviewed the cases of 41 consecutive men treated for breast carcinoma from 1950 through 1987 at Vanderbilt University Affiliated Hospitals to examine controversies in and methods of therapy for this disease. Twenty-two patients (52%) had stage I or II lesions potentially curable by operative therapy. The overall 5-year survival rates were 100% for stage I, 65% for stage II, 56% for stage III, and 0% for stage IV. Radical mastectomy offered no advantage over modified radical mastectomy in terms of survival or rate of recurrence. Diagnosis at an early clinical stage and no finding of disease

With rapid improvements in plastic surgery techniques over the past 15 years, breast reconstruction after mastectomy has become a reasonable option for most breast cancer patients. In most patients who have had a modified radical mastectomy, the breast can be easily reconstructed with a subpectoral Silastic implant. In those who have had more extensive resections of tissue or radiation damage of the skin, reconstruction can still be reliably carried out by using either a latissimus dorsi flap in addition to the implant or by using the transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap reconstructio

BACKGROUND: Although breast reconstruction after bilateral mastectomies including a contralateral prophylactic mastectomy is known to have a higher overall complication profile, whether reconstructive complication rates differ between the therapeutic mastectomy and contralateral prophylactic mastectomy sides remains unclear.
METHODS: Women undergoing bilateral mastectomies with autologous or implant-based breast reconstruction for a unilateral breast cancer at a single institution were identified (2009 to 2019). Postoperative complications were stratified by laterality (therapeutic mastectomy

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: A unique ER/PR-positive mucinous adenocarcinoma of breast but CK7/CK20 negativity. A rare finding of Lymphoplasmacytic Infiltration is noted. Successful treatment included modified radical mastectomy and tamoxifen-based therapy, leads to remission.
ABSTRACT: Mucinous carcinoma, which is characterized by the presence of abundant extracellular mucin, is a rare and distinctive subtype of invasive breast cancer. This subtype accounts for less than 5% of all invasive breast cancers, with pure mucinous carcinoma representing only around 2%. It is most commonly found in older p

A chronic hypertensive patient with electrocardiogram (ECG) showing left bundle branch block (LBBB) was given general anesthesia for right modified radical mastectomy. Her ECG reverted to normal sinus rhythm intermittently during peri-operative period. This intermittent rate-dependent LBBB is a rare entity. Though hypertension is one significant co-morbid condition, the risk evalution of LBBB during anesthesia only on an ECG finding, is not justifiable. Rather patient should be investigated further for any cardiac risk.

A 38-year-old woman was admitted because of left pneumothorax on March 16, 1991. She had undergone modified radical mastectomy in Dec. 1986. Chest roentgenogram on admission show a tumor shadow in the left upper lobe. She was diagnosed to have pneumothorax due to metastatic lung tumor. She underwent left upper lobectomy. Histologically poorly differentiated papillotubular adenocarcinoma was found and the cause of pneumothorax was thought to be necrosis of the tumor and direct invasion of the pleura.

BACKGROUND: We have investigated the variation of acute radiation reactions in medium-risk patients with postmastectomy radiotherapy with regard to a possible correlation between radiation reaction of normal tissues and local tumor control.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: From 1985 through 1991, a total number of 194 patients received postmastectomy radiotherapy for breast cancer pT1-2pN0-2M0 at the University of Halle-Wittenberg. The lymphatics were irradiated by an anterior 9-MV photon field and the chest wall by an individually shaped anterior field with 9-MV electrons. Both fields received single d

A 47 year old woman with two isolated lumps in her right breast underwent an excisional biopsy and the histological findings of both lesions revealed fibroadenoma with an in situ lobular carcinoma. Patey's modified radical mastectomy was performed after which careful follow-up was continued. To date, a total 161 cases of carcinoma arising in a fibroadenoma have been reported in the world literature and a review of these literature is given following the case report.

Two axillary lymph nodes from a patient who underwent modified radical mastectomy for carcinoma of the breast showed benign nevus cells in the fibrous capsule and within afferent lymphatics. Subsequently, an intradermal nevus from the area of drainage of the axillary lymph nodes was excised, which showed groups of nevus cells lying within small lymphatic channels. It is postulated that the nevus cells in the lymph node capsule could represent benign metastases from the intradermal nevus.

Breast cancer is one of the main sources of ovarian metastasis. Diffuse sheet of lobular carcinoma cells can strongly mimic granulosa cell tumor (GCT) which itself is a rare ovarian neoplasm constituting <5% of all the ovarian neoplasms. A 55-year-old female presented with a painful lump in the right breast associated with nipple discharge for 4 months, which on radiological and cytological findings was suspicious of an epithelial malignancy. During routine work-up, a solid-cystic lesion in the left ovarian adnexa was identified. The patient underwent right modified radical mastectomy along wi
