A <<mobile>> liver is an exceptional situation in which the laxness or absence of the ligaments supporting liver allow it to move in the transversal plane so that it is always located on the dependent side. This condition is usually associated to a long and lax mesocolon, which is usually responsible for the symptoms. Very few cases have been described in the literature. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the computed tomography (CT) findings of a mobile liver with acute abdomen caused by associated colonic volvulus.

Left adrenalectomy has been performed previously via anterior, posterior, loin or thoracoabdominal approaches. In the classical transabdominal approach the left adrenal gland is resected following either mobilization of the spleen with the tail of the pancreas or after entering the lesser sac, mobilizing the inferior border of the pancreas off the adrenal gland. This report describes laparoscopic left adrenalectomy, in a patient with Conn's syndrome, performed by a new approach via the root of the left transverse mesocolon.

A 7-years-old Clydesdale mare was presented with severe abdominal distension and acute colic. Dilated large intestine was palpated per rectum and a ventral midline exploratory laparotomy was performed. A 180 degrees volvulus of the pelvic flexure was present, associated with an inelastic band of tissue connecting the mesocolon to the umbilicus. The band was ligated and transected, and the volvulus reduced. Postoperative complications included hyponatraemia, metabolic acidosis and laminitis. The possible aetiology of the mesocolic-umbilical band is discussed.

Ischemic colitis following conservative management of sigmoid volvulus is documented in four cases. Repeat barium enema studies in these patients showed characteristic "thumbprinting", transverse ridging, and mucosal ulcerations within a segment or the entire length of the sigmoid, lasting up to 7 days after nonoperative decompression. The development, extent, and severity of the ischemic changes seem to correlate with the degree of volvulus, blockage of venous and arterial circulation in the sigmoid mesocolon, and increased intraluminal pressure.

PURPOSE: Total mesorectal excision (TME) is the gold standard resectional strategy for rectal cancer to minimize loco-regional recurrence and optimize oncological outcomes. This plane is described by many as 'bloodless' but it does contain important pelvic neural plexuses and dissection may be close to the ureters and major vascular structures, particularly in inflammatory conditions of the distal colon and rectum. The hibernoma is a rare benign tumor derived of embrionary fat seen in adult, which is usually localized in scapular and interscapular region. It express as a slowing growth bulk without symptoms. The authors present a 2 years old boy with acute abdomen requiring urgent laparotomy, that shows a tumor connected to mesocolon by a vascular pedicle that had undergone torsion. No other similar case published been found. The treatment is surgical resection although recurrences have been reported due to incomplete resection.

Although there is voluminous literature describing various aspects of hydatid disease in children, little attention has been paid to the small group of patients whose symptoms result in atypical presentation. This article addresses this problem, describing the features in ten children aged from 2 to 12 years. The sites of involvement were within a choledochal cyst (1). the pelvic cavity (1), the spleen (1), and transverse mesocolon. Albendazole was efficacious in the treatment of one recurrent case, as well as in preventing recurrence.

A 42-year-old man, who was previously fit and well, presented in haemorrhagic shock due to a spontaneous left mesocolonic haematoma and intraperitoneal bleed. His INR was noted to be raised on admission. Later investigations showed him to have villous atrophy on biopsy of the second part of his duodenum and a positive anti-reticulin antibody. His duodenal biopsy and INR normalized on a gluten-free diet. Coeliac disease may present with a single vitamin deficiency with potentially catastrophic results.
