A scoping review of eye tracking metrics used to assess visuomotor behaviours of upper limb prosthesis users.

Advanced upper limb prostheses aim to restore coordinated hand and arm function. However, this objective can be difficult to quantify as coordinated movements require an intact visuomotor system. Eye tracking has recently been applied to study the visuomotor behaviours of upper limb prosthesis users by enabling the calculation of eye movement metrics. This scoping review aims to characterize the visuomotor behaviours of upper limb prosthesis users as described by eye tracking metrics, to summarize the eye tracking metrics used to describe prosthetic behaviour, and to identify gaps in the liter

Speech Rhythm Perception in Japanese: Evidence From Sensorimotor Synchronisation With Connected Speech.

The rhythm of Japanese has often been described as mora-timed, a characterisation that overlooks the richer prosodic hierarchy extending from the mora to the syllable, metrical foot and prosodic word. The present study examines rhythm perception in Japanese using a recently developed sensorimotor synchronisation technique. Forty native speakers of Tokyo Japanese participated in the experiment, synchronising in time with the beat of looped sentences spoken in their native variety. Analysing frequency, accuracy and stability of synchronisation, the study showed that the mora affected the percept

What Evidence Do We Need From Objective and Subjective Outcomes in Order to Recommend Specific Operative Procedures for Men to Relieve BPO and Women With SUI? ICI-RS 2025.

AIM: Metrics used to evaluate meaningful clinical outcomes have long been a matter of controversy, particularly where there is no defined objective cure and patient-reported metrics (PROMs) are utilised as objective measures of subjective phenomena. The ICI-RS 2025 think tank discussed the relative merits of objective and subjective outcomes in clinical trials. METHODS: A review of medical literature in four key areas; hard metrics versus PROMs assessment of Minimally Invasive Surgical Treatments for Bladder Outflow Obstruction, for Stress Urinary Incontinence, and their use in current regist

Asymmetrical glymphatic dysfunction in patients with long Covid associated neurocognitive impairment- correlation with BBB disruption.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The glymphatic system, a waste clearance pathway, has been implicated in several neurological conditions associated with neuroinflammation. COVID-19 associated neurocognitive impairment, part of the post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), is strongly associated with neuroinflammation and disrupted blood-brain barrier (BBB). Several studies have implicated a synergistic interaction between the glymphatic system dysfunction and BBB disruption. In this proof-of-concept study, we investigated the role of the MRI metric diffusion along the perivascular spaces DTI

Evaluating Data Product Exposure Metrics for Use in Epidemiologic Studies of Dust Storms.

Dust storms are increasing in frequency and correlate with adverse health outcomes but remain understudied in the United States (U.S.), partially due to the limited spatio-temporal coverage, resolution, and accuracy of current data sets. In this work, dust-related metrics from four public areal data products were compared to a monitor-based "gold standard" dust data set. The data products included the National Weather Service (NWS) storm event database, the Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications-Version 2, the EPA's Air QUAlity TimE Series (EQUATES) Project using the C

A practical and nuanced framework for entity linking evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Entity linking maps textual mentions with entities in vocabularies. While accuracy is the primary metric for entity linking evaluation, it fails to capture the complexity of model behaviour. RESULTS: We propose an entity linking evaluation framework that clarifies the target objects of metrics calculation, incorporates term hierarchy, generates performance profiles, and summarises them as model characteristics. The framework emphasises hierarchical vocabulary structures, shifting the focus from text-level label matching to semantic comparison between concepts. We illustrate the com

VISIOCPR: Monocular Vision-Based CPR Training System with Human-Computer Collaborative Feedback.

High-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) aims at saving lives in time-critical emergencies, which requires correct compression rate, depth, and hand placement. However, due to the high cost and environmental constraints of sensor-equipped manikins or dedicated hardware, it is unrealistic to deploy these devices in ordinary training settings. For monocular vision-based methods, estimating compression depth without direct depth signals and tracking hands under severe overlap are difficult. To address these problems, this paper proposes VISIOCPR, a monocular vision-based CPR training syst

Deep peptide recognition profiling decodes TCR specificity and enables disease-associated antigen discovery.

Predicting T cell receptor (TCR) specificity on the basis of sequence is challenging because TCRs of similar sequence can recognize entirely different antigens, whereas TCRs of different sequence can recognize the same antigens. Here we present a system that integrates high-throughput yeast display with fine-tuned protein language models (pLMs) to generate deep peptide recognition profiles (PRPs) for individual TCRs, each detailing binding against millions of peptides. We provide detailed PRPs for a panel of HLA-B*27:05-restricted TCRs from persons with ankylosing spondylitis and acute anterio

A Multi-Modal Few-Shot Learning Framework for Foreign Object Segmentation in GIS Inspection.

The reliable operation of Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) is crucial for power system safety, yet automatic foreign object inspection within its cavities remains challenging due to low-light conditions and strong reflections. This paper proposes a multi-modal few-shot learning framework for high-precision foreign object segmentation in GIS. To overcome imaging interference, we first establish a dual-light (visible and ultraviolet) image acquisition system and design a lightweight fusion network to adaptively integrate multi-modal features, enhancing scene representation. For the core few-shot s

Mixture Design and Doehlert Matrix for Optimization of Energized Dispersive Guided Extraction (EDGE) of Theobromine and Caffeine from Cocoa Bean Shells.

This work describes the development of a method for the extraction of methylxanthines from cocoa bean shell (CBS) by employing the novel Energized Dispersive Guided Extraction (EDGE) system. The mixtures were composed of ethanol-methanol-water and the ratio was optimized using a simplex-centroid design. Doehlert design (DD) was used to optimize the variables of temperature and time while using methylxanthine content obtained by HPLC-DAD as an analytical response. The optimized mixture consisted of water-ethanol in a 3:2 ratio. The optimum operating conditions for extraction were achieved at a

Architecture-driven quantitative nanoscopy maps cytoskeleton remodeling.

Cytoskeleton remodeling which generates force and orchestrates signaling and trafficking to govern cell migration remains poorly understood, partly due to a lack of an investigation tool with high system flexibility, spatiotemporal resolution, and computational sensitivity. Herein, we developed a multimodal superresolution imaging system-based architecture-driven quantitative (ADQ) framework in spatiotemporal-angular hyperspace to enable both identification of the optimal imaging mode with well-balanced fidelity and phototoxicity and accurate postcharacterization of microtubule remodeling. A scoping review of neonatal calf diarrhea case definitions.

Various case descriptions and scoring systems have been used to define neonatal calf diarrhea (NCD) and diverse diarrhea-related outcomes are reported, which limits direct comparison between studies. Therefore, the objective of this scoping review was to characterize the case definitions used for NCD and describe diarrhea-related outcomes to inform future efforts towards standardization. A literature search identified articles using 3 databases (Medline, CAB Direct, Agricola), along with Google and Google Scholar. This returned 16,854 unique articles, which were then screened for eligibility b

Spacer-Enhanced Resolution of Thiamine and Pyridoxine in Hydrodynamically Closed Two-Dimensional Capillary Isotachophoresis Coupled With Tandem Mass Spectrometry.

The effect of specific spacers added to the separation environment of capillary isotachophoresis in a hydrodynamically closed two-dimensional device hyphenated with tandem mass spectrometry is reported in this short communication. Combination of two spacers, here, 2-amino-2-hydroxymethyl-propane-1,3-diol and histidine, led to enhanced resolution of two model analytes (thiamine and pyridoxine) in model and real pharmaceutical samples (tablet drug dosage form). The addition of the spacers at relatively high concentration level (i.e., 20 µg/mL) caused no significant interference and suppression o

Validating a measurement of psychological, physical and sexual abuse against women in gynecological care within the Chilean health system.

Our objective was to create and validate a scale that would allow us to investigate women's experiences of violent practices in healthcare System. The scale was applied to large sample of women (N = 4563) from Chile. We analyzed data and conclude that the final instrument shows good reliability (α = .876 y ω = .921) and a factorial structure of three correlated factors referring to psychological, physical and sexual violence. Similarly, our analysis of the data -using a confirmatory factor analysis and multi-group factor analysis- reveals good fit indexes (CFI = .94 y RSMEA = .06) and supports

Is the Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT) the Metric Needed to Assist with Postgraduate Admissions? Two Viewpoints: Viewpoint 1: The ADAT Provides a Viable Solution to Help Postgraduate Programs Differentiate Applicants and Viewpoint 2: The ADAT Has Questionable Utility and Value for Postgraduate Admissions.

In 2012, when the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) was changed from a numerical scoring system to pass/fail, advanced dental education programs lost a metric widely used for differentiating applicants to those programs. The American Dental Association (ADA) has developed the Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT) to address this issue. Implementation of the ADAT began in 2016 with a pilot program, which has not yet been widely accepted in the overall admissions process. This Point/Counterpoint explores the benefits and challenges of using the ADAT for postgraduate admissions. Viewpoint

Semi-Automatic Assessment of Vocalization Quality for Children With and Without Angelman Syndrome.

Automated methods for processing of daylong audio recordings are efficient and may be an effective way of assessing developmental stage for typically developing children; however, their utility for children with developmental disabilities may be limited by constraints of algorithms and the scope of variables produced. Here, we present a novel utterance-level processing (ULP) system that 1) extracts utterances from daylong recordings, 2) verifies automated speaker tags using human annotation, and 3) provides vocal maturity metrics unavailable through automated systems. Study 1 examines the reli
