Beyond the Conditions Model: The Case for a Recovery-Informed Regulatory Response to Nurses With Alcohol and Substance Use Disorders in Australia.

Australia's regulatory response to nurses with substance use disorder (SUD) defaults to conditions and surveillance-a framework built around compliance and risk containment rather than recovery. This perspective paper argues that this "conditions-based" model is not only clinically misaligned but counterproductive: it deters early help-seeking, causes measurable psychological harm, and drives workforce attrition at a time when Australia cannot afford to lose experienced nurses. Drawing on international evidence for Alternative to Discipline programs and Australia's own harm minimization policy

Factors Influencing Clinical Reasoning Among Clinical Nurses: An Integrative Review Using the Decision-Making Ecology Model.

BACKGROUND: Clinical reasoning (CR) is a complex, context-dependent process that is essential for safe nursing care. Existing reviews have primarily focused on nursing students rather than practicing clinical nurses. Rapid changes in patient acuity and the increasing integration of digital technologies into healthcare highlight the need for an updated synthesis that reflects contemporary clinical environments. AIMS: To identify and synthesize factors influencing CR among nurses in contemporary healthcare settings using the decision-making ecology (DME) model. DESIGN: Integrative review. MET

Analyzing risk factors for post-traumatic stress disorder among emergency-room nurses and development of a prediction model.

BackgroundEmergency nurses, working in high-pressure and stressful environments, often face sudden traumatic events such as critical patient resuscitation and accident scene management. Prolonged exposure to these stressors can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Identifying and analyzing the associated risk factors and developing an effective predictive model can provide a scientific basis for early intervention and psychological support, thereby improving the psychological resilience and work efficiency of emergency nurses.ObjectiveWe analyzed the risk factors for PTSD among emerg

Self-sufficiency in the healthcare workforce: a system dynamics model of the domestic and foreign educated nursing and midwifery workforce in Ireland.

BACKGROUND: World Health Organization (WHO) projections point to an increasing global demand for nurses and midwives, leading to shortages in many countries, particularly in less developed regions. Ireland, the context for this study, currently relies heavily on foreign educated nurses and midwives to meet its demand, with Government policy moving towards a domestic recruitment model. This paper estimates the recruitment requirement and associated nursing and midwifery student intake over time under different reform scenarios. It also highlights policy considerations for countries, like Irelan

Effectiveness of a WeChat-based personalized rehabilitation nursing model for urinary incontinence after prostatectomy: a retrospective cohort study.

Postoperative urinary incontinence (UI) is one of the most common complications affecting the quality of life in prostate cancer patients. Traditional nursing models mainly rely on outpatient guidance, making it difficult to provide continuous and dynamic rehabilitation support, and patient compliance is generally low. A personalized nursing model based on the WeChat platform offers a new strategy for managing postoperative UI through real-time interaction, training delivery, and individualized feedback. This study enrolled 123 patients with postoperative UI after radical prostatectomy, divide

Integrated Hospital-Territory Organizational Models and the Role of Family and Community Nurses in the Management of Chronic Conditions: A Scoping Review.

Background and Objectives: One of the challenges of modern healthcare systems, in terms of economic and organizational sustainability and the impact on patients' quality of life, is the progressive increase in chronicity and care complexity. In this scenario, hospital-community integration models represent possible strategies to ensure the continuity of care, reduce readmission rates, and improve clinical outcomes. This study aims to map integrated care models for patients with chronic diseases, with active involvement of the family and community nurse, describing their functions and associate

Exploring the application of an integrated health behavior change-based nursing model in pelvic floor muscle self-training.

To examine the effect of the Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change (ITHBC) model on self-efficacy, adherence, and rehabilitation outcomes in pelvic floor muscle training among postpartum women. This study recruited primiparas who underwent vaginal delivery at five medical institutions in China between January 2020 and January 2025. Participants were randomly assigned to either the ITHBC nursing model combined with conventional care group (observation group) or the conventional care group (control group). Outcomes included compliance with pelvic floor muscle training, self-efficacy, pelvi

Nurses Improving Care for Health Systems Elders (NICHE): An evidence-based professional practice model for an aging nation.

Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystems Elders (NICHE), one of the original geriatric care models, enhances the overall quality and safety of nursing care provided to older adults in hospital and post-acute care settings. NICHE is a relatively low-cost, high-impact investment in the nursing workforce to improve performance on the nurse-sensitive quality indicators including falls, pressure injuries, medication safety, urinary incontinence, restraint reduction, delirium identification and management, reducing preventable readmissions, among others. NICHE also serves as a foundation to enhance n

Transforming acute pain management in children: A concept analysis to develop a new model of nurse, child and parent partnership.

OBJECTIVES: To identify the core components of acute pain management in children, re-conceptualise the process and update the existing model to inform nursing research and clinical practice. BACKGROUND: Acute pain in hospitalised children remains suboptimal, despite extensive nursing research and education. Improvements require a patient-centred approach and a conceptual model which includes the role of parents and partnership. DESIGN: Using Rodgers' Evolutionary method, a concept analysis was conducted to define the core components for effective acute pain management in children. METHODS:
