UNLABELLED: In early stages choroidal peripapillary choroidal melanoma may be confused with a choroidal nevus or melanocytoma.
CASE REPORT: A 41-year old female was diagnosed having a choroidal nevus in close proximity to the optic nerve head. Unfortunately the patient did not show up for annual review of this lesion. Ten years after the patient was examined for the second time. A massive increase in tumor size and prominence was noted including serous retinal detachment. Medical work up excluded any metastatic growth, and the globe was enucleated. Three years later, the patient is still heal

Little is known about if and how nevi and pigmentation are associated with melanoma-specific mortality. However, increased melanoma awareness in people with lighter pigmentation and many nevi may result in earlier diagnosis of thinner less-lethal tumors. The aim of this study was to investigate associations between nevus count (asymmetrical > 5 mm and small symmetrical), pigmentary characteristics (hair colour, eye colour, skin colour, freckling, pigmentary score), and melanoma-specific mortality in subjects with melanomas > 1 mm. Data from the Norwegian Women and Cancer cohort, established in

PURPOSE: To describe a case of a patient with a preexisting conjunctival nevus giving rise to conjunctival melanoma as a potential adverse effect of the new selective Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) inhibitor deucravacitinib.
METHODS: Single case report.
RESULTS: A 50-year-old woman with a medical history of psoriasis, for which she was 6 months into treatment with deucravacitinib, presented with 3 months of progressive enlargement and darkening of a brown-pigmented lesion in the left eye. This lesion evolved in the place of a pigmented nodule in the

We report a series of 6 melanocytic proliferations harboring both NRAS and IDH1 hotspot mutations. Clinically, there was no specific sex-ratio, ages ranged from 18 to 85 years, and the trunk and limbs were the most affected localizations. In half of the cases, progressive modification of a pre-existing nevus was reported. Morphologically, all tumors were predominantly based in the dermis and the most striking pathologic finding was the presence of a background architecture of congenital-type nevi with a superimposed biphasic pattern formed by dendritic pigmented melanocytes surrounding areas o

Nevus is a group of melanocytes that grow together to form a benign growth on the skin. It is often a black lesion that may protrude from the skin. Becker's nevus is a hyperpigmented lesion that presents congenitally or is acquired. The pigmentation and unusually high hair growth might grow darker with time. Becker's nevus, which can interchangeably be called Becker's melanosis, is a rare disease usually presented by men. The following case is of a 21-year-old male who presented with a hyperpigmented lesion on his right arm. The lesion started at age 16 and increased in size gradually; it invo

Cutaneous melanoma may develop de novo on normal skin or in contiguity with a potential melanocytic precursor. We report a 45-year-old man who presented with a recently developed nodule in a previously stable congenital nevus. Physical examination revealed a 10x18-cm lesion with speckled lentiginous pigmentation and terminal hairs on the lower back. A 2x2-cm suspicious nodule in the lesion was noted by the patient 2 months earlier. Histopathological evaluation of the nevus and the suspicious nodule revealed the characteristics of a melanocytic nevus and melanoma, respectively. It was interesti

Benign stromal proliferations of pigmented melanocytes or blue nevi have been documented in several extracutaneous sites, such as uterine cervix, prostate, and lymph nodes. We report a 54-year-old male with melanocytic pigmentation of the adventitia of the ascending aorta. This would appear to be the first documentation of stromal melanocytosis (or "blue nevus") of the aorta.

Halo dermatitis (Meyerson's nevus) is an inflammatory, sometimes itchy, eczematous eruption usually encircling a preexisting melanocytic nevus that can be mistaken for malignant melanoma or Sutton's nevus. Unlike the latter, it mostly resolves spontaneously within weeks and never causes regression of the central lesion. Sutton's nevi, however, are frequently found in otherwise healthy individuals and patients suffering from vitiligo or malignant melanoma. The simultaneous appearance of Sutton's nevus and halo dermatitis has been reported before. However, the causes of both diseases remain uncl

41 patients with benign focal melanotic lesions on the oral mucosa were studied. The results showed that among the patients, 27 were female and 14 male, the mean age was 33 years old, and the most common site was the lip and gingiva. Clinically, the lesions were focal and well-defined, the size was about 0.6 cm in diameter. Histologically, 21 cases were pigmented nuvus on the oral mucosa (18 cases with nevocellular nevus and 3 cases with the common blue nevus), 2 cases were junctional change, 5 cases were the lentigo simplex, and 13 cases were oral melanotic macule. Tinea nigra usually presents as a brown to black macule on the palmar or plantar skin and is sometimes misdiagnosed as a malignant melanoma or as a junctional nevus, prompting unnecessary surgical procedures and anguish for the patient. Superficial scraping of the skin for microscopic inspection with potassium hydroxide reveals pigmented hyphae, easily confirming the diagnosis of tinea nigra.

We describe a case of true blue nevus of the prostate associated with prostatic melanosis, occurring in a 66-year-old man, who underwent multiple echo-guided prostatic fine-needle biopsies for a suspect prostatic adenocarcinoma. The histological features observed in the bioptic samples were chronic and acute inflammation, together with the presence of polygonal or elongated dendritic elements, scattered within the fibromuscular stroma and containing in their cytoplasm a brown pigment, staining black with the Fontana Masson stain, negative for the Perls stain, bleaching with potassium permangan

Birthmarks in newborns can be classified as vascular, melanocytic or pigmented, or markers of underlying developmental abnormalities of the nervous system. A nevus simplex is a benign capillary malformation. Newborns with a nevus flammeus can be safely treated before one year of age with a pulsed dye laser to reduce the visibility of lesions. Infantile hemangiomas should be treated with systemic beta blockers if there is a risk of life-threatening complications, functional impairment, ulceration, underlying abnormalities, permanent scarring, or alteration of anatomic landmarks. Becker nevus syndrome (BNS) is a rare epidermal nevus syndrome characterized with Becker nevus and ipsilateral breast gland hypoplasia or other skin, skeletal and/or muscle tissue disorders. A 24-year-old woman presented with brown, irregular bordered patch with a diameter of approximately 10 cm which consisted of several small macules on the left breast skin. The ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed left breast hypoplasia. Histopathological examination demonstrated minimal acanthosis, papillomatosis, increase in basal layer melanin and hypertrophy of the erector pili muscle

Nevus sebaceous of Jadassohn is a congenital cutaneous hamartoma with epidermal, sebaceous, follicular, and apocrine structures that usually appears at birth or in early childhood. It has the potential to generate a variety of secondary neoplasms of different lineages, and the risk increases with patient age. Although multiple neoplasms may occasionally arise within the same lesion, the coexistence of more than five secondary tumors is extremely rare. Here we report a case of seven secondary tumors including syringocystadenoma papilliferum, desmoplastic trichilemmoma, sebaceoma, trichoblastoma

We present a case of a 6-year-old girl with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (EB) who presented with a large pigmented lesion clinically concerning for melanoma. After histological examination and fluorescent in situ hybridization analysis, diagnosis of EB nevus was performed. EB nevi are benign melanocytic neoplasms with histological findings similar to recurrent nevi occurring in all types of EB. They often mimic melanoma clinically, dermatoscopically, and histopathologically. The ability to recognize an EB nevus is essential for appropriate management of the patient. Unnecessary s

WE CAN IDENTIFY THREE MAIN GROUPS OF CUTANEOUS PIGMENTED LESIONS THAT COULD BE REPRESENTED AS MELANOMA PRECURSORS: (a) congenital melanocytic nevi, (b) dysplastic or atypical nevi, and (c) acquired melanocytic nevi. The occurrence of melanoma in small and intermediate congenital melanocytic nevi is very uncommon, but there is a high risk in large congenital melanocytic nevi, in particular those arising in the so-called "bathing trunk" distribution. It is very important to distinguish the familial dysplastic nevus syndrome, which is a strong risk factor for cutaneous melanoma, from not familial

A sixty-two year old man was diagnosed as having an amelanotic of the right great toe after the lesion had been treated for several months as a pyogenic granuloma. Establishment of the correct diagnosis was aided by the finding of a radiolucent defect on a roentgenogram of the toe. Since amelanotic melanoma usually presents as a vascular or ulcerated nodule, rather than as a pigmented nevus, the lesion may be mistaken for a benign tumor. This case illustrates the necessity of histologic confirmation of all presumed pyogenic granulomas. Furthermore, it also stresses that clinical, histologic, a
