Prevalence, subtypes, and correlates of nocturia in the symptoms of Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction Research Network cohort.

AIMS: We determined the prevalence, severity, and correlates of nocturia in a large clinical cohort of patients. METHODS: Patients presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) completed 3-day bladder diaries. Nocturia was quantified based on the mean number of nighttime voids documented over the 3 days. Nocturia subtypes (global polyuria, nocturnal polyuria [NP], reduced global bladder capacity, and reduced nocturnal bladder capacity) were assessed. Bother due to nocturia was measured by the LUTS Tool. Sleep quality was assessed with the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Informatio

Assessment of the Most Impactful Combination of Factors Associated with Nocturia and to Define Nocturnal Polyuria by Multivariate Modelling.

BACKGROUND: Nocturia is common and associated with multiple disease states. Many potential mechanisms have been proposed for nocturia, which also remains challenging to manage. PURPOSE: To use multivariate analysis to determine which combinations of factors can accurately discriminate clinically significant nocturia in patients to facilitate clinical management and treatment decisions. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Data analysis was based on frequency volume charts from three randomized controlled trials. There were 1479 patients included, of which 215 patients had no/mild nocturia and 1264 had clin

Jingui Shenqi pill for nocturia due to nocturnal polyuria: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of nocturia is high and will seriously affect patients' physical and mental health. Nocturnal polyuria is the most critical cause of nocturia, There are few drugs currently used to treat nocturia due to Nocturnal Polyuria (NP). The guide highly recommends only Desmopressin. There is an urgent need to find new drugs. Jingui Shenqi pill (JSP) is a Chinese patent medicine, it is widely used in China to treat NP. However, there is no evidence-based medical evidence to prove its safety and effectiveness. The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate the efficacy and

Nocturia, Other Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms and Sleep Dysfunction in a Community-Dwelling Cohort of Men.

OBJECTIVES: To examine the influence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on nocturia, controlling for their shared co-morbidities, in a population of community-based middle aged to elderly men. METHODS: Participants were drawn from a randomly selected, community-dwelling cohort of men in Adelaide, Australia. Seven hundred and eight men (mean: 60.7 [41.6-88.2] years) who had polysomnography recordings, complete lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) measures (International Prostate Symptom Score), without prostate or bladder cancer and/or surgery, and no prior OSA diagnosis were selected. Nocturia w

Factors associated with acute radiation-induced nocturia in localized prostate cancer treated with proton beam therapy.

We examined factors associated with acute radiation-induced nocturia (ARIN) in patients with localized prostate cancer (LPC) treated with proton beam therapy (PBT). We included 140 patients who underwent PBT for LPC. Of these, 80 patients with implanted hydrogel spacers were treated with moderately hypo-fractionated proton therapy (MHPT) (60-66 GyRBE in 20-22 fractions) and 60 patients without hydrogel spacers were treated with normo-fractionated proton therapy (NFPT) (74-78 GyRBE in 37-39 fractions). In-room computed tomography was performed for each fraction to monitor target position. Prost

Association Between Before-bedtime Passive Body Heating and Nocturia During the Cold Season Among Older Adults.

BACKGROUND: Cold exposure induces lower urinary tract symptoms, including nocturia. Cold-induced detrusor overactivity can be alleviated by increasing skin temperature in rats. However, no study has shown an association between passive heating via hot-water bathing and nocturia among humans. METHODS: We included 1,051 Japanese community-dwelling older adults (mean age: 71.7 years) in this cross-sectional study from 2010 to 2014. The number of nocturnal voids was recorded in a self-administered urination diary. Nocturia was defined as ≥2 nocturnal voids. We evaluated bathing conditions in the

Circadian antidiuretic hormone variation in elderly men complaining of persistent nocturia after urinary flow obstruction removal.

Persistence of nocturia after prostatic resection in healthy patients without symptoms referred to residual bladder instability and to pathological polyuria seems to be caused by an increased urine production at night. The more accreditate mechanism involved is the relevant decreased ADH secretion pattern which occurs at night. In our study, patients with nocturnal poliuria showed significantly low plasmatic vasopressin levels compared with a control group. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the persistence of nocturia after prostatic resection in healthy patients, without symptoms

Impact of Overactive Bladder and Dry Mouth on Subjective and Comprehensive Sleep Quality in Older Adults With Nocturia.

BACKGROUND: Nocturia is among the most common and bothersome urinary tract symptoms in older adults. While sleep quality is key to nocturia management, there is little information on the impact of nocturia itself on sleep quality. We investigated the impacts of nocturia on sleep quality and quality of life and explored factors contributing to reduced sleep quality. METHODS: A total of 186 men, aged 42-88 years (patients with nocturia and a control group), were evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Nocturia Quality-of-Life questionnaire, a visual analog scale measurement of d
