A case is presented of a 12-year-old, black male, who had a full permanent dentition except for retaining the two maxillary primary central incisors. A radiographic examination revealed the presence of two supernumerary teeth interfering with the eruption of the permanent central incisors. Space was orthodontically created for the permanent central incisors, the primary central incisors and supernumerary teeth were removed, and the permanent central incisors were orthodontically brought into proper alignment.

This case report describes the treatment of a male patient, aged 16 years and 5 months, with a Class II division 1 malocclusion, who showed severe anterior protrusion and lower anterior crowding along with missing upper left lateral incisor. Treatment plan consisted of extraction of upper right first premolar and lower second premolars. No extraction was performed on the upper left quadrant instead canine was substituted as lateral incisor and premolar as canine to establish a good occlusion. Power arms were used for intrusion and retraction of the anterior teeth. After active treatment period

INTRODUCTION: Our aim was to assess the prevalence of gingival recessions in patients before, immediately after, and 2 and 5 years after orthodontic treatment.
METHODS: Labial gingival recessions in all teeth were scored (yes or no) by 2 raters on initial, end-of-treatment, and posttreatment (2 and 5 years) plaster models of 302 orthodontic patients (38.7% male; 61.3% female) selected from a posttreatment archive. Their mean ages were 13.6 years (SD, 3.6; range, 9.5-32.7 years) at the initial assessment, 16.2 years (SD, 3.5; range, 11.7-35.1 years) at the end of treatment, 18.6 years (SD, 3.6

As a result of recent innovations and improvements, orthodontic treatment has become easier and more efficient to carry out, allowing greater numbers of patients to receive treatment. The main result of orthodontic treatment is improved dental alignment and aesthetics. Treatment has no effect on caries or periodontal disease, and the dental health gain is modest, apart from a very small percentage of destructive malocclusions. Psychological improvements using different psychological parameters show differing results and it is not clear that any psychological gains are long lasting. Social gain

This is a case report of a patient with a skeletal Class III malocclusion and maxillary arch length deficiency. The patient was treated without extraction or surgery by increasing the maxillary arch length. Protraction of the maxillary complex and A point was the result. Favorable growth of both the maxilla and the mandible resulted in a functional Class I occlusion and an improved skeletal relationship. [This case report was presented to the American Board of Orthodontics in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the certification process conducted by the Board.]

Primary molar teeth that are retained beyond their exfoliation pose a clinical decision-making challenge for dental teams. The retention of these teeth may be due to absence of a permanent successor. As a result, careful planning is required to determine if retention or extraction is necessary. This article aims to discuss the prevalence of retained primary molars, assessment and treatment planning considerations, from both orthodontic and restorative perspectives.

Many treatment options are available to address the problem of missing second premolars. Extraction of retained deciduous second molars and subsequent space closure are often appropriate because this option alleviates the need for implants or other restorations. This article describes the conventional orthodontic closure of unilateral and bilateral congenitally missing second premolar spaces after the extraction of retained deciduous second molars.

This article aims to illustrate a case of mandibular canine transmigration crossing the midline and erupting labially to the lower incisors and discuss its general prevalence, etiology, and orthodontic management. Cases of canine transmigration are rare and mostly occur due to retained deciduous predecessors or dental lamina aberrations. This anomaly is appropriately diagnosed radiographically. As canines are significant for masticatory function, arch stabilization, and esthetics, it is imperative to preserve them by orthodontic correction or surgical transplantation, unless the prognosis is a

The effect of five different treatments for retained permanent molars was evaluated in 59 patients to develop a rational guideline for adequate therapy. The results showed that a prosthetic buildup is the proper treatment if retention develops after the growth spurt, because in these cases the extent of infraocclusion is slight and relatively stable. If retention develops before the growth spurt, immediate removal of the retained molar followed by orthodontic treatment is the way to maximal success. When retention develops during the growth spurt, the tooth affected has to be observed at 6-mon

INTRODUCTION: This article reports the use of an orthodontic mini-implant for a temporary crown restoration in a small edentulous space after limited orthodontic treatment.
METHODS: Two clinical cases are presented: a 23-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy. In the adult patient, a 2-piece orthodontic C-implant (Cimplant, Seoul, Korea) was placed in a 3-mm wide edentulous space to build up a temporary crown restoration after a short orthodontic treatment to regain space for a missing mandibular right permanent lateral incisor. In the boy, a C-implant was placed in the space resulting from an

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to find out the incidence of incidental findings seen in cone beam computed tomography scans taken for orthodontic purposes and to see if these findings influence orthodontic treatment.
SUBJECTS AND METHOD: Three hundred and twenty-nine consecutive scans carried out for orthodontic purposes using an i-CAT Classic were included in the study. Each scan was evaluated by a single radiologist and any incidental findings recorded. The incidental findings were further classified depending on whether the finding would influence orthodontic management.

This case report introduces a novel double archwire mechanics concept using orthodontic mini-implants and a miniplate to relocate ectopically impacted maxillary canines in a 14-year-old female with a Class III subdivision left malocclusion. The objective of this orthodontic treatment was to salvage the maxillary lateral incisors so they could be used for conservative restorations upon completion of the orthodontic treatment and to guide the impacted maxillary canines to their correct anatomical positions. The authors report that an iatrogenic root resorption of the maxillary lateral incisors,
