A 4.7-kDa polysaccharide from Panax ginseng suppresses Aβ pathology via mitophagy activation in cross-species Alzheimer's disease models.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurological condition that progresses with age. Amyloid-β (Aβ) aggregation has been suggested to be a key pathogenic process in Alzheimer's disease. Ginseng polysaccharides (GP), the main biologically active components isolated from Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer (ginseng), may act as neuroprotective agents with potential benefits for AD patients. However, GP effects on Aβ pathology and AD symptoms are still unclear. Here, a 4.7-kDa GP termed GP4 was purified and subjected to basic physicochemical characterization. The biological effects of GP4 to prevent Aβ aggregati

Combination of Panax notoginseng saponins and aspirin potentiates platelet inhibition with alleviated gastric injury via modulating arachidonic acid metabolism.

High platelet reactivity and gastric mucosal injury after aspirin (ASA) treatment are associated with poor compliance and an increased risk of cardiovascular events. Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) have been widely used for the treatment of coronary heart disease (CHD) in addition to antiplatelet drugs in China; however, the joint effect and possible mechanism of PNS in addition to ASA on platelet activation and gastric injury remain unclear. This study was designed to investigate the combinational effects of PNS with ASA, and to explore the underlying mechanism via arachidonic acid (AA) meta

In-depth insight into the corrosion inhibition mechanism of Panax notoginseng leaf extract on the corrosion of mild steel in an acidic environment.

An eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor, Panax notoginseng leaf extract (PNLE), was systematically studied via electrochemical experiments, surface analysis, and first-principles calculations. Electrochemical measurements show that PNLE exhibits remarkable inhibition performance toward mild steel in 1 M HCl medium, with a peak inhibition efficiency of 99.1% at 400 mg L-1. Theoretical calculations corroborate the generation of Fe-O, Fe-N, and Fe-C bonds at the PNLE-steel interface, which furnishes unambiguous evidence for chemisorption. Overall, PNLE exhibits outstanding corrosion inhibition perfor

[Research progress on role of ginsenosides-mediated rhizosphere microecological succession in formation of continuous cropping obstacles of Panax ginseng].

The frequent occurrence of continuous cropping obstacles has become a major constraint on the sustainable development of the Panax ginseng industry. As the characteristic secondary metabolites of P. ginseng, ginsenosides are released by plants into the soil and can persist in the soil environment through physical adsorption, microbial transformation and other processes, thereby exerting a sustained regulatory effect on the composition of rhizosphere microbial communities. Taking ginsenoside-mediated rhizosphere microecological succession as the core thread, this paper systematically expounded

Effects of dietary supplementation of lipophilic fraction from Panax ginseng on cGMP and cAMP in rat platelets and on blood coagulation.

We have studied the effect of dietary supplementation with 25 mg (0.0025% of the total diet) of a lipophilic fraction (LF) from Panax ginseng on rat platelet aggregation induced by collagen or thrombin, and on blood coagulation. When platelets prepared from 15% corn oil plus LF-administered rats (COLF) were stimulated by thrombin (0.1 units/ml) and collagen (100 micrograms/ml), the cGMP level was significantly increased as compared with those from 15% corn oil only-administered rats (CO). The levels of cAMP in COLF were decreased by thrombin, but was increased by collagen. Furthermore, the lev

Panax ginseng suppresses endothelin-1-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy through inhibition of the local angiotensin II-AT1 receptor signaling axis.

Panax ginseng (PG) is a traditional herbal medicine widely used for the treatment of cardiovascular disorders in East Asia. Although PG has been reported to attenuate cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, the molecular mechanisms underlying its cardioprotective effects remain incompletely understood. In this study, we investigated whether modulation of the endothelin-1 (ET-1)-angiotensin II (AngII) signaling axis contributes to the anti-hypertrophic action of PG. Neonatal rat ventricular myocytes (NRVMs) were used to evaluate ET-1-induced hypertrophy, and pharmacological experiments using receptor antago
