Mesenteric panniculitis is a primary inflammation of the mesentery with variable necrosis, inflammation and fibrosis of the fatty tissue. It can be idiopathic (primary) or secondary (associated) to other diseases, asymptomatic and accidentally discovered or revealed by abdominal pain or complications (intestinal obstruction or peritonitis). We here report the case of a 53-year-old patient, admitted with acute abdominal pain, cessation of the transit of materials and gases, in a febrile context. Patient's history included chronic abdominal pain suggesting König´s syndrome and epigastralgia last

Mesenteric panniculitis is a non-neoplastic condition involving inflammation and fibrosis of the small bowel mesentery. We describe a man in his 60s who presented with 3 months of febrile episodes, confusion and weight loss. The diagnosis of mesenteric panniculitis had been established 2 weeks prior based on an abdominal computerized tomography scan. Extensive diagnostic investigations during his hospitalisation were unrevealing, and the symptoms were ultimately attributed to the mesenteric panniculitis. The fevers resolved over several weeks, and no further episodes have occurred since discha

BACKGROUND: Sclerosing mesenteritis is a rare condition characterized by chronic inflammation and fibrotic changes of the mesentery.
AIMS: To determine the long-term management and outcomes of patients with sclerosing mesenteritis.
METHODS: Patients with biopsy-proven sclerosing mesenteritis at the Mayo Clinic between January 2006 and December 2016 were identified. Clinical data were collected retrospectively.
RESULTS: One hundred and three patients were identified, median age 68.0 years (range 35.0-85.3). Most patients were symptomatic (87.4%) at presentation. Patients received no treatmen

We describe the F-FDG PET/CT findings in a rare case of mesenteric panniculitis caused by systemic lupus. A previous CT had raised suspicion of a space-occupying lesion in the left hypochondrium in a context of aspecific constitutional symptoms and inflammatory parameters. The diagnosis of panniculitis was confirmed at laparoscopic biopsy directed by the PET findings. Follow-up F-FDG PET/CT after 1 month of corticosteroid therapy showed complete disappearance of the abdominal hypermetabolic foci.

A Mesenteric panniculitis is an uncommon disorder with unknown etiology. It may cause nonspesific abdominal or systemic symptoms. Radiological modalitis especially computed tomography are very helpful to make a diagnosis. Hence, the radiologist should be familiar with its tomographic findings to avoid further examinations and unnecessary surgery. We report computed tomography findings of mesenteric panniculitis in an adult patient with renal colic.

Mesenteric panniculitis is a non-specific inflammation of the mesenteric adipose tissue, with varying degrees of fibrosis and fat necrosis. It can be associated with varying diseases and conditions, such as autoimmune disease and cancer. Many doctors are not familiar with this disease or do not know how to interpret the signs and symptoms. Here, we describe three patients illustrating the variety of clinical course, diagnostics, prognosis and treatment. A 44-year-old woman suffering from episodic abdominal pain was diagnosed with uncomplicated mesenteric panniculitis. The disease was stable wh

Sclerosing mesenteritis is a rare inflammatory disease of the bowel mesentery of unknown aetiology. It poses a diagnostic challenge for clinicians, as it can be mistaken for malignancy. We report a case of sclerosing mesenteritis initially presented with abdominal pain, tender abdominal mass and small bowel obstruction. Emergency laparotomy revealed fibrous thickening of the small bowel mesentery mimicking small bowel lymphoma. An ileo-ileal bypass procedure was performed. Six months later, the patient developed retroperitoneal fibrosis, manifesting as bilateral obstructive uropathy. Our case

Two patients with mesenteric panniculitis are presented. In the first patient, a provisional diagnosis of ileus was made, based on the clinical features and imaging data. Laparotomic findings showed that the ileum was bound tightly by a fibrous strip and dilated, with thickened and swollen mesentery. Incision of the fibrous strip was performed, and the clinical symptoms were improved. The second patient was strongly suspected to have mesenteric panniculitis, from characteristic features on abdominal computed tomography and barium enema. Conservative therapy was effective in this case. We empha

We report a case of intraabdominal panniculitis. Computed tomography (CT) showed diffuse increased attenuation in the omentum, mesentery, and retroperitoneal region. As the disease progressed, the entire mesentery and retroperitoneal regions were involved. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the lesion demonstrated an intermediate signal intensity on T1-weighted images and a slightly high signal intensity on T2-weighted images. Though the radiologic findings are not specific, this condition should be considered in the appropriate clinical context.

Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is a rare condition that encompasses a spectrum of disease processes characterized by degeneration, inflammation, and scarring of the adipose tissue of the mesentery. The etiology of MP remains unknown; although various causes have been suggested and it has been seen to occur independently as well as in association with other disorders. The clinical manifestations of MP vary over a spectrum, and most patients actually experience no discomfort at all. When present, these clinical presentations vary according to the stage of the disease and may include general sympto

Intra-abdominal panniculitis is a thickening of the mesentery of the small/large intestine due to infiltration of lipid-laden macrophages associated with a variable amount of fibrosis. This condition is rarely associated with malignant neoplasms. We report the computed tomography (CT) findings of a patient treated for uterine papillary serous adenocarcinoma (UPSC). She had mesenteric panniculitis where metastatic tumor nodules implanted. This was the only intraperitoneal recurrence. To our knowledge, no such finding has been reported in the gynecologic and radiologic literature to date. On CT

PURPOSE: To assess the relationship between MP and coexisting non-neoplastic disorders.
METHODS: Consecutive abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans of 4674 patients were evaluated retrospectively for CT features of MP between January 2017 and January 2018. Clinical findings of patients were analyzed. Four control patients were selected from our cohort for each MP patient such that they matched for age, gender and CT protocol. Statistical analysis was performed using a t, Mann-Whitney U, χ2, or Fisher's test.
RESULTS: 976 patients were excluded from the study due to the exclusion criteria a

BACKGROUND Sclerosing mesenteritis (SM) is a rare idiopathic inflammation and fibrosis of the mesentery. Its etiology and pathogenesis remain unclear. It has been linked to abdominal trauma related to peritoneal dialysis, recent abdominal surgery, idiopathic inflammatory disorder, paraneoplastic syndrome, ischemia/infection, and autoimmunity. Abdominal CT is the most sensitive imaging modality, and diagnosis is usually confirmed by surgical biopsy. Patients most often present with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and weight loss, and less commonly with chylous ascites and small bowe

A 28-year-old Japanese man presented with upper abdominal pain. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a soft tissue mass in the small bowel mesentery. We diagnosed the patient with sclerosing mesenteritis according to the histological findings of small bowel mesentery. Although he was treated with prednisolone, colchicine and azathioprine, neither his symptoms nor CT findings improved. This case is rare in that the disease was refractory. The characteristics of Japanese patients with sclerosing mesenteritis involving small bowel mesentery are not well understood. We herein describe the details of
