A 65-year-old woman on peritoneal dialysis (PD) was admitted due to abdominal pain with cloudy PD effluent. The white blood cell count in PD effluent was 5860/µL with 85% polymorphonuclear neutrophils. Therefore, she was clinically diagnosed with peritonitis. The cultures of PD effluent were negative. Brucellosis is endemic in Saudi Arabia. Brucella peritonitis is an uncommon clinical condition. We herewith report a 67-year-old man with chronic renal failure on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) for four months, who developed chronic brucella peritonitis. This article is a survey of the Chinese literature of perforation of gastrointestinal tract by ascaris. We wish to draw attention to the acute abdominal disease of ascaris infection, and acute ascaris peritonitis as a result of perforation, most cases being found in children. The disease has very high morbidity (24/112; 21.4%) and high mortality (17/112; 15.2%). Early detection and operation are of critical importance. Perforation of gastrointestinal tract by ascaris may develop into peritoneal granuloma, which has a different clinical presentation and outcome.

Fifty patients were studied prospectively to determine the value of diagnostic peritoneal lavage in the evaluation of acute peritonitis. PURPOSE: The data of 11 peritoneal tuberculosis (TB) patients is discussed in an attempt to better understand this disease.
METHODS: Nine patients with clinical features mimicking ovarian cancer and two with infertility were evaluated retrospectively.
RESULTS: The mean age was 40.8 +/- 18.3 years. None had any past/family history of TB. The incidence of peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients has decreased as a result of improvements in PD technology.
