Shear Stress-Stimulated Trafficking of Endothelial Piezo1 to Splenic Capsule Boosts Spleen Contraction and Exercise Endurance.

Haemodynamic shear stress, sensed by vascular endothelial cells (ECs), is crucial for the functional integrity of ECs and the systemic benefits of exercise. Here, we observed that shear stress triggers the release of medium/large extracellular vesicles (m/lEVs), from ECs via activation of the mechanosensitive ion channel Piezo1. Endothelial Piezo1 activation induces Piezo1 translocation to the cell periphery, facilitating its trafficking from the vascular ECs to the smooth muscle cells in the splenic capsule. Within the splenic capsule, the translocated Piezo1 acts as a downstream effector of

Dose-response characteristics of the Nordic hamstring exercise: Total impulse versus total repetitions.

We clarified the relationship between the bilateral Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE) training volume and adaptation by incorporating total impulse, the time-integrated force across sessions. Twenty-one healthy males (42 legs) were randomly assigned to twice-weekly (TRA2), once-weekly (TRA1), or control groups for six weeks. NHE-specific (peak torque, break-point angle, eccentric torque) and non-specific outcomes (isometric torque, isotonic power, total work during fatigue task, jump height, muscle architecture and stiffness) were assessed pre- and post-intervention. Dose-response relationships

Current biomechanical methods and practices of physical training load monitoring in women's artistic gymnastics: A scoping review.

Women's artistic gymnastics (WAG) is a precision-based sport involving intense physical and technical training from a young age. Injuries in WAG can be a result of poorly managed acute and/or chronic biomechanical loads. This scoping review aims to identify current biomechanical methods of load monitoring in WAG. This review followed the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Four databases (MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus) were searched for studies that measured biomechanical load of competi

Assessment of the Relationship Between Physical Performance and Percentage Change-of-Direction Deficit in Highly Trained Female Football Players.

PURPOSE: Different studies indicate that female players in team sports such as soccer tend to have a lower change-of-direction (COD) deficit (CODD) than their male counterparts and that players who performed better in linear and curved sprints tended to have a worse CODD, suggesting that maximum speed does not equate to a faster COD. This study assessed how performance variables related to speed and jumping influence the variability of %CODD among adult highly trained female soccer players. METHODS: Fifty-two highly trained female soccer players (age 23.1 [3.25] y; height 163.6 [5.49] cm; wei

From Tissue to System: What Constitutes an Appropriate Response to Loading?

Optimal loading involves the prescription of an exercise stimulus that promotes positive tissue adaptation, restoring function in patients undergoing rehabilitation and improving performance in healthy athletes. Implicit in optimal loading is the need to monitor the response to load, but what constitutes a normal response to loading? And does it differ among tissues (e.g., muscle, tendon, bone, cartilage) and systems? In this paper, we discuss the "normal" tissue response to loading schema and demonstrate the complex interaction among training intensity, volume, and frequency, as well as the i
