Unpacking the green potential: How does supply chain digitalization affect corporate carbon emissions? - Evidence from supply chain innovation and application pilots in China.

The impact of supply chain digitalization (SCD) on carbon dioxide emissions is an emerging area of research, particularly in China, which is the world's largest carbon emitter. This study uses micro-level data on listed companies from 2010 to 2021 to systematically verify the impact and mechanism of SCD on corporate carbon emissions (CCE) through the difference-in-differences model. We determined that SCD can significantly reduce CCE and its implementation path involves three aspects: promoting technological innovation, reducing financing constraints, and increasing market attention. Moreover,

Rehabilitative Interventions for Flight-Related Musculoskeletal Injuries in the Neck, Shoulder, and Back among Military Pilots and Aircrew: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Military pilots and aircrew frequently experience musculoskeletal injuries (MSKIs), particularly in the neck, shoulder, and back, because of the physical and environmental demands of flight. The prevalence of these injuries varies depending on the type of aircraft operated. Such injuries can significantly impact operational readiness and flight capabilities, especially in deployed settings where access to therapy may be limited. Interventions to prevent or mitigate MSKIs are critical to keeping pilots and aircrew flight ready. Non-pharmacological therapies provide accessible, aut…

Riding (High) into the danger zone: a review of potential differences in chemical exposures in fighter pilots resulting from high altitude and G-forces.

When in flight, pilots of high performance aircraft experience conditions unique to their profession. Training flights, performed as often as several times a week, can expose these pilots to altitudes in excess of 15 km (~50,000 ft, with a cabin pressurized to an altitude of ~20,000 ft), and the maneuvers performed in flight can exacerbate the G-forces felt by the pilot. While the pilots specifically train to withstand these extreme conditions, the physiologic stress could very likely lead to differences in the disposition of chemicals in the body, and consequently, dangerously high exposures.…

Return to flight duty (RTFD) after posterior lumbar spine surgery for symptomatic lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis (LIS) in Chinese military pilots.

BACKGROUND: Symptomatic lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis (LIS) present significant challenges for military pilots, which may result in grounding if not effectively managed. Surgical treatment for LDH and LIS may offer a pathway to return to flight duty (RTFD), but recent data on this crucial topic is lacking. This study seeks to address this gap by investigating the RTFD outcomes among Chinese military pilots who have undergone lumbar spine surgery for symptomatic LDH and LIS. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted on active-duty military pilots who und…

Civilian pilot exposure to ultraviolet and blue light and pilot use of sunglasses.

Population and animal studies indicate that long-term exposure to short-wavelength visible light and ultraviolet (UV) radiation causes increased risk of certain ocular pathologies such as cataracts and maculopathy. The potential risk to flight crew is unknown. The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued guidance to pilots regarding sunglass selection; however, it is not known if this guidance is appropriate given pilots' unique occupational environment. A search and appraisal of the relevant literature was conducted which showed that within the airline pilot population, there is limited e…

Probiotic Supplementation With Saccharomyces boulardii and Enterococcus faecium Improves Gastric Pain and Bloating in Airline Pilots With Chronic Non-atrophic Gastritis: An Open-Label Study.

Background Commercial airline pilots (APs) are prone to upper gastrointestinal symptoms, such as epigastric pain and bloating. These issues are often linked to occupational risk factors like irregular diet, sleep disruption, and circadian rhythm disturbance. The use of probiotics to enhance intestinal health is well established, but their efficacy in treating upper gastrointestinal diseases is still debated. This is primarily due to the stomach's small resident microbiota and its low pH, which is inhospitable to most microbes. However, emerging research suggests that specific probiotic strains…

Cyanosomes: A pilot study.

Cyanobacteria are the most primitive, oxygen-evolving prokaryotic organism. Several, conspicuous investigations have been done around lipids from cyanobacteria. However, to date and to the best of our knowledge, no study was conducted to formulate and evaluate liposomal vesicles prepared from cyanobacterial lipid. In the present study, cyanosomes were formulated using natural lipids extracted from the cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus PCC7942 which were further loaded with thymoquinone. The results showed that the prepared cyanosomes were homogenous with an overall negative charge of part
