Recent Advances in Possible Treatment Options Including Herbal Remedies for the Management of Cholelithiasis.

Cholelithiasis, particularly cholesterol-bearing-stones, is one of the gastrointestinal diseases representing a substantial global health burden. The five key primary factors inducing cholesterol-bearing-stones include genetics, hepatic cholesterol hypersecretion, rapid phase transition of cholesterol, gallbladder hypomotility, and specific intestinal factors. To date, laparoscopic cholecystectomy remains the primary treatment approach for cholelithiasis patients. The various non-surgical methods, such as bile acid therapy, novel drug candidates, and herbal remedies, are detailed. Special atte

Exploring Herbal Remedies as Adjunctive Therapies in Managing Inflammation and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Habitual inflammation is defined as the persistent activation of the body's susceptible system in response to harmful events. This ongoing inflammatory process can sometimes harm normal organs & tissues. Crucially, chronic inflammation has been linked to the emergence and advancement of a variety of disorders, including cardiovascular diseases, respiratory issues, metabolic illnesses, neurological disorders, and cancer. These diseases are classified as chronic-degenerative conditions due to the sustained and persistent nature of the underlying chronic inflammatory processes. Treating patient's

Isothiocyanates and Glucosinolates from Sisymbrium officinale (L.) Scop. ("the Singers' Plant"): Isolation and in Vitro Assays on the Somatosensory and Pain Receptor TRPA1 Channel.

Sisymbrium officinale (L.) Scop. is a wild common plant of the Brassicaceae family. It is known as "the singers' plant" for its traditional use in treating aphonia and vocal disability. Despite its wide use in herbal preparations, the molecular mechanism of action of S. officinale extracts is not known. The plant is rich in glucosinolates and isothiocyanates, which are supposed to be its active compounds. Some members of this family, in particular allylisothiocyanate, are strong agonists of the transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) channel, which is involved in the somatosensory perce

Medicinal plants used to treat "African" diseases by the local communities of Bwambara sub-county in Rukungiri District, Western Uganda.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: In Africa, traditional medicine encompasses a diverse range of practices, including herbalism and spiritualism, where some diseases are believed to be "African" since they can only be traditionally treated. Indigenous knowledge on the management of "African" diseases using medicinal plants is still handed down orally from generation to generation by tribal societies of tropical Africa, and with the rapid westernization of these societies there is a pressing need to record local knowledge before it is lost forever. AIM: This study documented medicinal plant spec

Distribution of proteins for synaptic release in nerve endings associated with the trachealis muscle of rats.

The immunohistochemical localization of proteins for synaptic release was examined in smooth muscle-associated sensory nerve endings using whole-mount preparations of the rat trachea. Plant-like smooth muscle-associated nerve endings with immunoreactivity for Na+-K+-ATPase, α3-subunit were identified in the trachealis muscle. VGLUT1, synapsin1, t-SNARE proteins (SNAP25 and syntaxin1), v-SNARE proteins (VAMP1 and VAMP2), and a presynaptic active zone-related protein (piccolo) were detected in the terminal parts of these endings. These results suggest that smooth muscle-associated nerve endings

[Liver involvement in the course of phytotherapy].

The development of herbal medicine has follow in line with increased popular interest in ecology. Emphasis has been placed on the safety of natural herbs in contrast with the risks involved with "classical" medicines. But recent publications have revealed that several herbal medicines are toxic for the liver. For example, in France we have observed cases of hepatitis after ingestion of germander (Teucrium chamaedrys). Clinicians should also be aware of other well documented toxic effects of herbs used in popular medicines in Africa, Asia or Central America. The toxicity of pyrrolizidine alkalo

Uptake, translocation, and metabolization of amitriptyline, lidocaine, orphenadrine, and tramadol by cress and pea.

The uptake, translocation, and metabolization of four widely used drugs, amitriptyline, orphenadrine, lidocaine, and tramadol, were investigated in a laboratory study. Cress (Lepidium sativum L.) and pea (Pisum sativum L.) were employed as model plants. These plants were grown in tap water containing the selected pharmaceuticals at concentrations ranging from 0.010 to 10 mg L-1, whereby the latter concentration was employed for the (tentative) identification of drug-related metabolites formed within the plant. Thereby, mainly phase I metabolites were detected. Time-resolved uptake studies, wit
