Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is now recognized as a common relevant diagnosis in children. We reviewed the results of patch tests in children under 16 years of age over the 3-year period January 2009 to December 2011, comparing the results with those in a similar 3-year retrospective study performed in our unit for the period August 1999 to September 2002. We conducted a study to determine the prevalence and clinical patterns of footwear dermatitis, patch testing 50 patients with suspected footwear dermatitis and 30 controls with 22 allergens of a shoe series (Chemotechnique Diagnostics AB, Malmö, Sweden). The overall prevalence among contact dermatitis cases was 11.7%. A comparative study has been made on the mechanisms of toxicities of trivalent and hexavalent forms of chromium in Neurospora crassa. Of the two forms, Cr6+ is more toxic than Cr3+.
