Psychological Vulnerability and Hope as Serial Mediators in the Association between Psychological Maltreatment and Romantic Relationship Satisfaction.

This study aims to examine the serial mediating roles of psychological vulnerability and hope in explaining the impact of childhood psychological maltreatment on romantic relationship satisfaction in adulthood. The research was conducted with the participation of 401 young adults, and data were collected through self-report instruments. The proposed theoretical model was tested using structural equation modeling. The findings indicate that psychological maltreatment negatively affects romantic relationship satisfaction both directly and indirectly through psychological vulnerability and hope.

Rated casemix of general practitioner referrals to practice counsellors and clinical psychologists: A retrospective survey of a year's caseload.

Although evidence-based guidelines are beginning to be produced as to which psychological therapies might be appropriate for which patients, little is known about how general medical practitioners (GPs) in practice distribute referrals between different psychological therapy services. In a retrospective survey, 19 practice counsellors and 10 clinical psychologists from the same geographical area rated a year's caseload of GP referrals using identical data collection methods. Rated casemix was found to be broadly similar, although practice counsellors rated relationship and bereavement problems

Raja Yoga meditation: A personal spiritual experience and narrative inquiry.

The COVID-19 pandemic catalysed widespread psychological distress, daily disruptions, and pervasive uncertainty. This paper presents a narrative inquiry exploring a personal spiritual journey with Raja Yoga meditation, initiated via an online course during the pandemic lockdown. The account investigates the interconnected roles of spiritual knowledge, meditation practice, and selfless service (Sewa) in enhancing psychological well-being and fostering profound inner transformation. Additionally, a unique subjective experience during a residential spiritual retreat is analysed through both spiri

The psychological sequelae of maxillofacial trauma: a scoping review of the literature.

Managing the physical sequelae of facial trauma is routine for the maxillofacial surgeon. However, managing the psychological consequences is more challenging. The often violent mechanism of injury, changes in appearance, altered self-perception, and self-confidence can significantly impact daily life. This review summarises the literature regarding post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and facial trauma, highlighting evidence to guide clinical practice. PubMed and MEDLINE were searched for relevant keywords and MeSH headings. Articles between 2000-2022 were independently reviewed by two autho

[Proximity psychology : clinical presence and perspectives].

Proximity psychology has developed in hospital settings as a continuation of institutional psychiatry, community psychology, and, more recently, emergency psychology implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is characterized by a discreet and regular clinical presence within teams, aimed at supporting subjectivity, creativity, and collective bonds in a context marked by multiple challenges. By fostering spaces for dialogue and symbolization, it enables staff members to preserve their psychological vitality and to act as authors of their own practice. For the institution, it represents both

Sleep Quality Mediates the Relationship Between Sleep Hygiene and Psychological Stress Among Adults With Multiple Cardiovascular Risk Factors.

BACKGROUND: Poor sleep quality and psychological stress are interrelated and disproportionately affect adults with multiple cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. Maintaining an optimal home environment and engaging in healthy bedtime behaviors are important components of sleep hygiene practices that influence sleep health and mental well-being. However, research is scarce in exploring the associations between sleep hygiene, sleep quality, and psychological stress among adults with multiple CVD risk factors. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 300 adults diagnosed with hyp

Computerized tomography of the head and psychological evaluation by use the WAIS, Benton Gestalt Test, and L. Bender battery was performed in 32 bipolar patients. CT revealed structural changes in 90% of subjects while only 47% of patients showed organic features in psychological evaluation. No significant correlations were found between the character and severity of changes in psychological tests, and the abnormalities found in CT. Practical implications of applied investigations were discussed.

Endoscopic ultrasound teaching and learning.

Scientific publications in the field of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) are raising up since the last twenty years. The value of EUS is directly proportional to the training, skill and experience of the endosonographer. In a recent series, the lowest annual number of examinations requested per year might be around 200-250 procedures. For achieving competence in all the fields of EUS, they recommended a minimum of 150 supervised cases, 75 of them being devoted to pancreaticobiliary diseases and 50 to fine needle aspiration (FNA). Many studies have yet confirmed the importance of the learning curve

Learning motor synergies by persons with Down syndrome.

Persons with Down syndrome are frequently described as 'clumsy'. The recent progress in the development of quantitative approaches to motor synergies has allowed researchers to move towards an understanding of 'clumsiness' at the level of underlying control mechanisms. This progress has also offered an opportunity to quantify changes in motor synergies that accompany improvement in the performance of motor tasks. Previous studies of our group have shown, in particular, that persons both with and without Down syndrome are able to show improvements in indices of their multi-finger synergies in t

Managing hostility.

Hostility causes the breakdown of human relationships. In the workplace, it is a frequent cause of the stress which is characterized by anxiety, tension, depression, gross errors in judgment, and mental and physical exhaustion. Hostility has infectious properties, whereby it can easily spread throughout an organization creating factions and seriously impairing operations. Because medical group administrators face hostility from a variety of sources--doctors, employees, and patients and their families--they must learn to recognize hostility for what it is, and to manage it. Having researched th

The role of neuroscience within psychology: A call for inclusiveness over exclusiveness.

In the present article, we appraise the increasingly prominent role of neuroscience within psychology and offer cautions and recommendations regarding the future of psychology as a field. We contend that the conflict between eliminative reductionism (the belief that the neural level of analysis will eventually render the psychological level of analysis superfluous) and emergent properties (the assumption that higher-order mental functions are not directly reducible to neural processes) is critical if we are to identify the optimal role for neuroscience within psychology. We argue for an interd

Understanding the role of basic psychological needs and agency in the mental well-being of rheumatoid arthritis patients: An exploratory research.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease, accompanied by disability and chronic pain, therefore psychological problems and impaired health-related quality of life are common among patients. Maintaining mental health and well-being strongly depends on retaining previous meaningful, autonomous activities and accepting reliance on others. The Self-Determination Theory (SDT) provides considerable evidence that the fulfilled needs of competence, relatedness, and autonomy universally foster psychological well-being. This paper identifies the themes of basic psychological needs and t

An Integrative Bio-Psycho-Social Theory of Anorexia Nervosa.

UNLABELLED: The need for novel approaches to understanding and treating anorexia nervosa (AN) is well recognized. The aim of this paper is to describe an integrative bio-psycho-social theory of maintaining factors in AN. We took a triangulation approach to develop a clinically relevant theory with face validity and internal consistency. We developed theoretical ideas from our clinical practice and reviewed theoretical ideas within the eating disorders and wider bio-psycho-social literature. The synthesis of these ideas and concepts into a clinically meaningful framework is described here. We s

Calm in chaos: leadership lessons on psychological safety from humanitarian and emergency care.

CONTEXT: Leadership is often conceptualised within stable healthcare systems, yet its most revealing moments arise when those systems fracture. Humanitarian and emergency care environments-marked by uncertainty, scarcity and cultural complexity-strip leadership of formal scaffolding and expose its human foundations. AIM: This reflective narrative explores how leadership understanding was reshaped through humanitarian deployments, with particular attention to psychological safety, humility, adaptability and empowerment, and considers how these behaviours translate into everyday healthcare lead
