Whole cells and lipopolysaccharides (LPS) of 10 isolates of Pasteurella multocida from laboratory rabbits were subjected to chemical and serological analysis. The protein and antigenic pattern of adult (female/male) and microfilarial stages of Setaria cervi, a bovine filarial parasite, was studied using certain immunochemical techniques. IgG from the plasmas of two haemophilia A patients with anti-VIII:CAg antibodies (1000 and 200 u/ml) was isolated and labelled with 125I. The specific labelled anti-VIII:CAg IgG was further purified by binding to and elution from immobilized factor VIII/von Willebrand factor (F.VIII/vWF). The ELISA was used for detection of specific IgG antibodies to Micropolyspora faeni antigens in 158 farmers with a history of exposure to mouldy hay, eighty-eight of whom had a diagnosis of farmer's lung. We describe a case of interlobar pulmonary sequestration diagnosed at thoracotomy in which there were a number of unusual features at presentation: an opacity with multiple cavities, positive aspergillus precipitins, erythema nodosum and a haemothorax complicating a trans-thoracic needle biopsy. Although it is unusual to find such a constellation of symptoms and signs they could be explained in a logical fashion.

We report a 10-year-old girl with bird fancier's lung, and suggest that environmental antigens should be sought in children presenting with non-resolving chest disease.

The case is described of a woman of 21 who had suffered since childhood from asthma and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis. During her recovery from a period of severe status asthmaticus she developed widespread patchy lung shadowing, signs of an intracerebral space-occupying lesion and high titres of serum precipitins to Aspergillus fumigatus. Post-mortem examination revealed Aspergillus bronchopneumonia and an intracerebral aspergilloma.

A patient with clinical and roentgenographic findings suggestive of allergic bronchopulmonary disease who presented with recurrent pulmonary infiltrates with peripheral eosinophilia was identified. Sputum cultures were positive for Curvularia lunata. Total serum IgE was elevated, and intracutaneous skin testing with C. lunata was positive. Serum precipitins against C. lunata were present with specific IgE and IgG antibody indexes elevated. These studies provide further Immunologic characterization of this uncommon disorder.

We previously demonstrated that 14 of 23 asymptomatic dairy farmers with positive precipitins and 5 of 20 without precipitins had an alveolar lymphocytosis (greater than 22%). A 13-yr-old asthmatic girl with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) exhibited eosinophilia, IgE hypergammaglobulinemia, serum precipitins to Aspergillus, a dual skin reaction to Aspergillus fumigatus, and positive, lymphocyte transformation in vitro in response to stimulation with Aspergillus fumigatus antigen.
