BACKGROUND: Diabetes Mellitus causes a systemic oxidative stress due in part to the hyperglycemia and the reactive oxygen species generated. Up to 75% of diabetic patients present with an autonomic neuropathy affecting the Enteric Nervous System. A method is presented for the decontamination, liquefaction, and concentration of sputum specimens that are in transport more than 24 h. The method is inexpensive, and culture results compare well with those obtained with the accepted N-acetyl-L-cysteine and sodium hydroxide method for the isolation of tubercle bacilli. Coumarin is a natural product known for its diverse biological activities. While its antifungal properties in agricultural chemistry have been extensively studied, there is limited research on its antibacterial potential. The design of small molecular ligands able to bind with DNA is pivotal for the development of diagnostic agents and therapeutic drugs targeting DNA. Carbazole-derivatives are potential agents against tumors and opportunistic infections of AIDS.
