The Xcounts algorithm for calculating air concentrations of radioactive xenon isotopes (Eslinger et al., 2023) has been extended to estimate 127Xe in addition to 131mXe, 133mXe, 133Xe, and 135Xe. The algorithm was applied to 119 samples collected with a SAUNA QB system (Ringbom et al., 2023) during a two-month atmospheric tracer release experiment. The algorithm identified two samples with 127Xe present from a single 1.5 h release about 3.5 km upwind of the sampler and no false detections of 127Xe were observed in the other samples.

The saccharine test for assessing mucociliary clearance in the nose is the most practicable method. As the used sodium salt of saccharine is well water soluble, there is suspicion of interference with the very delicate two-layer-system of mucus or transport merely in the periciliary fluid, thus bringing about methodical errors. A 35-year-old man had a 5-year history of fluctuating hearing loss in his only hearing ear. History and diagnostic tests indicated a perilymph fistula, a diagnosis subsequently confirmed by exploration. Primary and secondary repairs temporarily ameliorated symptoms. A spinal fluid to middle ear fluid pathway was identified by radioactive tracer. A patent cochlear aqueduct indicated on computed tomography scan was found and repaired through a posterior cranial fossa approach. Hearing was preserved, remaining relatively stable during the 2-year follow-up period.
