BACKGROUND: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has emerged as a minimally invasive treatment for benign thyroid nodules. However, concerns exist about potential cytological progression following RFA. This study investigated the incidence of progression from benign (Bethesda II) to indeterminate (Bethesda III-IV) cytology and evaluated RFA's long-term efficacy and safety.
METHODS: This prospective study included patients with benign thyroid nodules treated with RFA from July 2019 to December 2023. Pre- and post-ablation fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology results were analyzed. Treatment efficacy…

BACKGROUND: We report endocardial radiofrequency (RF) ablation as an alternative treatment approach for a symptomatic patient with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM), who is not suitable for surgical septal myectomy or alcohol septal ablation. Endocardial RF ablation, with detailed 3D mapping of the intrinsic conducting system, offers the possibility of reducing the risk of complete heart block rates and of effectively relieving symptoms.
CASE SUMMARY: We present a symptomatic 51-year-old female patient with oHCM and a maximum left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) gradient of 148

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Chronic pain is a pervasive and often-complex condition that can severely detract from an individual's quality of life. When conservative measures of treatment fail, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has emerged as a potential alternative. This narrative review subsequently explores recent advancements in the use of RFA on peripheral nerves as a means of attenuating chronic pain and providing relief to patients.
METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted on the PubMed database using the keywords "Radiofrequency", "Ablation", "Pain", "Chronic", "Peripheral",…

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive technique used to alleviate chronic pain by destroying pain-signaling nerve fibers. This procedure offers precise and focused pain relief, serving as an alternative to surgical and pharmacological treatments for chronic conditions such as arthritis, back pain, neck pain, and nerve pain. RFA has evolved over a long period, beginning with early work on electrical currents. Significant progress has been made in its application to pain management with continual technological improvements enhancing its safety and effectiveness. As technology and…

Data on the use of radiofrequency (RT) to ablate a tumor mass-causing pain have not been reported. A male in his 50s, diagnosed with a pelvic relapse of rectal cancer, was admitted for pain from the left groin to the perineum. The principal findings of contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed the presence in the pelvic area of large solid tissue infiltrating the internal obturator muscle and eroding the vertebral column of the acetabulum. Also involving the gluteal muscles. He was poorly responsive to multiple opioids. He was treated with RT under CT guidance to ablate the pelvic mas

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: In this review, we summarize the procedural approach and outcomes of venous ethanol infusion in the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias with intramural site of origin.
RECENT FINDINGS: Coronary venous ethanol infusion has emerged as a novel, safe, and effective adjunctive strategy to radiofrequency ablation of drug refractory ventricular arrhythmias with an intramural origin. Radiofrequency catheter ablation is the first-line treatment for drug refractory ventricular arrythmias. Its success is highly dependent on the ability to reach targeted myocardium. Radiofrequency fai…

We report the case of a 28-year-old male patient diagnosed with extensive metastatic Ewing sarcoma that affected his facial bones. The patient came to us with left-sided jaw/facial pain that could not be managed successfully through conservative methods. We utilized radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the left Gasserian (trigeminal) ganglion to alleviate the patient's pain successfully. Although this method is commonly used to treat trigeminal neuralgia, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first documented case where Gasserian ganglion RFA has been successfully used to manage pain in a pati…

Challenging anatomic and morphologic conditions of the left ventricular (LV) summit architecture and its surrounding sites may prevent sufficient heating of the targeted area during standard radiofrequency catheter ablation. Bipolar ablation can result in higher likelihood of efficacy for ablation of LV summit arrhythmias from inaccessible regions and increase the chance of achieving a transmural lesion. In this review, the authors describe the present approaches for bipolar ablation of the LV summit arrhythmias refractory to standard approaches.

Chemodectomas are low prevalence tumors with complex clinical management. Many present as an incidental finding however, in other dogs, they produce pericardial effusion and/or compression, leading to the appearance of severe clinical signs. There are currently several approaches: surgery, radiotherapy, stent placement and chemotherapy. This is the first description of percutaneous echo-guided radiofrequency ablation of aortic body tumors. This minimally invasive treatment is based on high frequency alternating electrical currents from an electrode that produces ionic agitation and generates f…

Innovations in radiofrequency (RF) ablation and nonablative techniques have led to significant advances in addressing complex arrhythmogenic substrates for a variety of cardiac arrhythmias. Anatomical challenges, deep substrate, and mid-myocardial locations may pose difficulties and decrease success rates using routine methods. In this review, we provide an update on novel RF technology and techniques including (a) high-power, low-duration ablation, (b) ablation facilitated by low-ionic irrigant, and (c) bipolar ablation. In addition, we review emerging technologies including electroporation,

BACKGROUND: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) focally destroys abnormal or dysfunctional tissue using thermal energy generated from alternating current. The utilization of RFA has gained popularity as a minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of skeletal metastases with a particular focus on palliative pain treatments to the spine, pelvis, long bones, sternum, and glenoid. More recently, single-session procedures that combine RFA with vertebral augmentation techniques have allowed treatment to areas of pain associated with pathologic fractures secondary to metastatic disease. Although many …
