Polyaryletherketone (PAEK) materials, including polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and polyetherketoneketone (PEKK), possess excellent mechanical properties and biocompatibility; however, their inherently low surface energy limits effective bonding with resin cements. This study investigated the effects of hydrofluoric acid (HF) etching and handheld nonthermal plasma (HNP) treatment on enhancing the adhesive performance of PAEK surfaces. Disk-shaped PEEK (BP) and PEKK (PK) specimens were divided into four groups: APA (airborne-particle abrasion), PLA (nonthermal plasma treatment), LHF (5.0% HF), and …

Background and Clinical Significance: Tooth surface loss is the irreversible loss of dental hard tissue caused by non-carious processes. Restoration of affected teeth can be challenging, especially on the palatal surfaces of maxillary anterior teeth when severe palatal hard-tissue loss is present without marked clinical crown shortening. In such cases, clinicians must preserve the remaining enamel for predictable adhesive bonding while ensuring accurate seating, complete adaptation, and controlled cementation of thin indirect restorations. To address these challenges, this case report describe

The reliability of cemental annulation counts in teeth was examined to determine its value as an age indicator for humans. One hundred extracted human teeth were embedded in polyester casting resin and sectioned using a diamond wafering saw. Thin sections were photomicrographed, projected, and counted in a double blind random method of presentation. The age of the specimen was determined by adding the number of cemental annulations counted by the observers and the eruption age of the specific tooth that was used. The data analyzed by simple regression indicated that determining chronologic age

Acrylate allergies have been reported in dental professionals as a result of repeat exposure to various acrylate monomers and in dental patients with removable prostheses or longstanding composite restorations. To date, there is only one report of an allergic reaction in a young patient from small volumes of resin-based orthodontic adhesive. This case report demonstrates a recent case of gingival inflammation and lip oedema attributed to an acrylate allergy arising from the composite adhesive used with fixed appliances. The impact on orthodontic treatment is reported and the wider implications

The purpose of these case reports is to introduce a potential use for a resin-ionomer in guided tissue regeneration. The resin-ionomer is used in a two-fold manner (1) to lute an e-PTFE membrane in place in furcation defects and (2) to act as a barrier itself in furcation and infrabony defects. Clinical observations made in this report indicate that a resin-ionomer barrier may be placed subgingivally without sutures. In addition, the resin-ionomer, given its ability to release fluoride, may serve as a delivery system for local antimicrobial therapy during the initial stages of wound healing. F

In some patients, primary molars with no permanent successor can be retained for an indefinite time; however, if occlusal relationships necessitate intraocclusal augmentation, cast ceramic onlays can provide an excellent solution. This paper reports the case of a teenager in whom two cast ceramic onlays were bonded with resin to retained mandibular primary molars, to create an esthetic and functional occlusion.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of gummy smile (GS) with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based implants is suggested in specific cases such as those in which there is a lack of lip support due to a marked depression of the anterior maxillary process; however, it can be associated with certain complications related to the material and the surgical approach.
METHODS: A patient with a GS of combined etiology was treated with clinical crown lengthening and lip repositioning surgery with placement of a PMMA-based bone cement implant to fill the subnasal depression. Surgical planning was performed using a

Orbital wall defects occur because of trauma and secondary to oncologic surgery. Reconstruction of orbital bones is of most importance to ensure normal eye functions and cosmesis. Acrylic resin materials can be used instead of a bone in orbital wall defects that are secondary to the resection of tumors invading the orbita. Polymethyl methacrylate is one of the acrylic resin materials. In this study, the orbital wall reconstruction technique with bone cement after maxillectomy and results are reported.
