Quantitative retinal imaging is essential for eye disease detection, staging classification, and treatment assessment. It is known that different eye diseases or severity stages can affect the artery and vein systems in different ways. Therefore, differential artery-vein (AV) analysis can improve the performance of quantitative retinal imaging. In this article, we provide a brief summary of technical rationales and clinical applications of differential AV analysis in fundus photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and OCT angiography (OCTA).

PURPOSE: Several risk factors have been identified for central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in older population. CRVO in young is uncommon, and the risk factors for this group are unclear. This large retrospective, cross-sectional study used the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database to evaluate the risk factors for CRVO in patients 18 to 40 years of age.
METHODS: The 2002 to 2014 NIS database was used. All patients 18 to 40 years of age with a primary diagnosis of CRVO were identified. Age- and gender-matched non-CRVO controls were randomly selected. The primary outcome was identification

To investigate the possible correlation between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). Thirty consecutive patients with a recent (<3mo) CRVO and an age- and sex-matched group of 30 control subjects were recruited. All subjects underwent full-night polysomnography to measure apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and oxygen desaturation index (ODI). The average AHI and ODI were significantly higher in CRVO patients (AHI: 13.86±8.63, ODI: 9.21±4.47) than in control subjects (AHI: 8.51±6.36, ODI: 5.87±3.18; P=0.008 and 0.001 respectively). Additionally, the AHI was positivel

We present six cases of central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) that we recently treated with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2). Patients in three of the six cases, including the CRVO case, experienced near to complete restoration of their vision. Another case had marked improvement. Our findings are similar to other case studies with approximately 65-70% improvement in patients treated for CRAO. Physicians should be aware that rapid referral of CRAO and CRVO patients to HBO2 is efficacious. Such patients should be placed on 100% oxygen by non-rebreather mask a

We describe a moyamoya (MMD) patient with bilateral consecutive branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). The patient had a medical history of severe headache, cranial haemorrhage, bilateral supraclinoid carotid artery occlusion, and "puff of smoke" collaterals on cerebral angiography and an encephalomyosynangiosis operation. On ophthalmic examination, he had superior temporal branch vein occlusion with intraretinal haemorrhage and visual acuity of 20/25 in the right eye. Twelve years later, he presented with superior temporal branch vein occlusion in the left eye and visual acuity of 20/60. The p

Orbital Cellulitis is a dreaded ophthalmologic disease. It may destroy vision and the eye and may even become life threatening. Often visual loss is the result of exposure and subsequent destruction of ocular tissue commonly the cornea and the uvea. We report a case of combined central retinal artery and vein occlusion complicating orbital cellulitis in a 35 year old patient who was 37 weeks pregnant resulting in loss of vision in the affected eye. There have been few case reports of this type of complication of orbital cellulitis.
