Improved scanning techniques, positioning, and adjustments in instrumentation have been developed on the basis of more than 1,500 ultrasound examinations of the upper abdomen and high retroperitoneum. We report the case of a retroperitoneal paraganglioma in a 35-year-old man discovered by abdominal pain. The abdomino-pelvic computed tomography (CT) showed a retro-peritoneal latero-aortic mass compatible with a paraganglioma, confirmed by the 24-hour urinary metanephrines and normetanephrines test. After an adequate pharmacological preparation, we decide to perform a laparoscopic resection of the paraganglioma. The surgery went without any complication. A 67-year-old man presented with lower limb weakness, palpitations, and insomnia. His urinary total metanephrine and normetanephrine levels were high. Computed tomography showed a 48 × 34-mm oval mass on the dorsal side of the pancreas and portal vein between the aorta and vena cava. Because of the tumor location, we performed laparoscopic surgery using a retroperitoneal approach. We described a case of a patient with primary retroperitoneal paraganglioma between the aorta and vena cava who underwent retroperitoneoscopic resection. Our case suggests that this procedure can be safely performed.
