Quantification by SIFT-MS of volatile compounds produced by the action of sodium hypochlorite on a model system of infected root canal content.

Root canal irrigation with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is an indispensable part of the chemomechanical preparation of infected root canals in Endodontology. However, there is limited information on the emergence of toxic or hazardous volatile compounds (VOCs) from the interaction of NaOCl with the infected content of tooth biomaterials. The aim of this study was to assess the formation of VOCs and disinfection by-products (DBPs) following the interaction of NaOCl 2.5% v/v with a model system of different sources of natural organic matter (NOM) present in infected root canals, including dentine

MANAGEMENT OF CHRONIC APICAL PERIODONTITIS WITH FURCATION INVOLVEMENT USING HIGH-TEMPERATURE SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE IRRIGATION: A CASE REPORT.

Furcation involvement in multirooted teeth represents a significant challenge for endodontic treatment due to anatomical variability, the presence of accessory canals, and limited accessibility for adequate disinfection. This article presents a clinical case of non-surgical single-visit endodontic treatment of chronic apical periodontitis associated with furcation involvement in tooth 4.7. Root canal disinfection was performed using 3.25% sodium hypochlorite with intracanal heating up to 150 °C plugger. After chemo-mechanical preparation, definitive root canal obturation was carried out using

A Novel Laboratorial Approach to Evaluate Bacterial Microleakage of Endodontic Sealers.

To avoid failure of endodontic treatment, it is important to properly seal the root canals after chemomechanical preparation in order to avoid microleakage. Typically, sealing involves the use of gutta-percha and sealing cement, the latter of which adheres to the dentin and fills the spaces between the gutta-percha and the dentin walls. Laboratory studies have been performed to detect microleakage of endodontic sealers based on various criteria, including microbiological ones; however, none guaranteed that the leakage occurred through the root canal space and not through other pathways. This a
