A 6-year-old spayed female poodle dog weighing 5 kg was presented with a fractured right upper canine tooth (#104). Dental examination using an intraoral camera and radiography confirmed a tooth fracture with an exposed pulp, resulting in the loss of ~2/3 of the crown. Tooth #104 was diagnosed with a complicated crown fracture. Consequently, root canal therapy was undertaken, involving root canal preparation with hand files and subsequent canal filling with appropriate filling materials. After the root canal therapy was completed, part of the filling material was removed to facilitate post pla…

The term fusion is used to define a developmental anomaly characterised by the union of two adjacent teeth. In the case reported here, clinical and radiographic examinations suggested a unilateral fusion between the mandibular left permanent incisor and a super-numerary tooth. Radiographs showed that the fused teeth had two distinct pulp chambers and canals. A diagnosis of chronic periapical abscess of the supernumerary tooth was made. Before root canal therapy, a periodontal surgical procedure was performed to section the central incisor and its fused supernumerary. Also, odontoplasty was per…

BACKGROUND: Chronic apical periodontitis (CAP) remains among the most challenging endodontic conditions due to persistent infection and inflammatory destruction in the periapical region. In contemporary endodontic terminology (AAE 2015), CAP typically corresponds to apical periodontitis with radiographic apical radiolucency, which may present with or without symptoms.
OBJECTIVE: This study evaluates the effect of a novel bioceramic sealer, iRoot SP, on periodontal clinical parameters and masticatory function in patients with chronic apical periodontitis (CAP) compared with the traditional AH-

BACKGROUND: Root canal morphology variations, particularly C-shaped canal configurations, pose substantial challenges to successful endodontic therapy. Accurate preoperative assessment of these complex anatomical patterns remains essential, with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) offering superior three-dimensional visualization compared to conventional radiography.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and morphological characteristics of C-shaped canals and comprehensively evaluate root and canal configurations of mandibular first molars within an Iraqi Kurdish populati

BACKGROUND: In general, mandibular canines have a single root and a single canal. The occurrence of two roots and two canals is a rare entit … nical diagnosis of chronic irreversible pulpitis with symptomatic apical periodontitis was made and root canal therapy was performed following the standard protocols.
CONCLUSION: Although the prevalence of two roots and two canals in mandibular canine is very low, the clinician should always be mindful of variations in the number of roots and canals for proper mana …

We have previously demonstrated that anaerobic bacteria are the microorganisms most frequently isolated from blood following endodontic therapy of teeth with apical periodontitis. Phenotypic characterisation of the isolates suggested that the bacteria in the blood originated from the root canal. The present experiment using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) was carried out in an effort to verify these findings, and to further study the microorganisms involved in endodontic bacteremias. Soluble cellular proteins were extracted from 11 reference strains and 26

OBJECTIVE: Root canal therapy is often recommended after mature tooth transplantation. The aim of this work was to histologically evaluate, in dogs, the best time for root canal treatment in autogenic transplants of teeth with complete root formation.
STUDY DESIGN: Mandibular lateral incisors of 8 dogs were extracted and transplanted to the homologous alveolus, endodontically treated after 15 (Group I) or 40 (Group II) days, and processed for routine histological evaluation. Tissue responses on the root surface were evaluated by light microscopy and classified as normal periodontium, active i…

Although it has been discussed since 1920, the entity of extracanal invasive resorption (EIR) remains misunderstood from a nomenclature, diagnostic, and treatment standpoint. At least 10 terms for it have been published in the dental literature. The key to diagnosis is that the pulp canal space has not been invaded by the resorption. Therefore, the pulp will respond to vitality testing. From a treatment standpoint, a differentiation must be made between the three types of EIR--intraosseous, crestal, or supraosseous. The latter condition may not require endodontic treatment, whereas it is neces

This report describes the cases of two patients with a maxillary lateral incisor with palatogingival groove and extensive endodontic-periodontal lesions. Although it is reported that acceptable periodontal status is of great importance in case selection in intentional replantation, it is suggested in this report that intentional replantation could be chosen instead of immediate extraction if extensive endodontic-periodontal lesions exist in a tooth with palatogingival groove. The gingival margin position and gingival papilla were well preserved and the bone defect was almost completely repaire

The four first permanent molars in a 16-year-old girl with juvenile periodontitis were treated by selective grinding, tooth eruption, conventional periodontic treatment and endodontic therapy. The endodontic treatment was carried out as an elective procedure under ideal conditions, thereby pre-emptying the emergency treatment which would have been necessary following occlusal reduction. The two-year follow-up examination showed successful resolution of the original condition.

INTRODUCTION: Use of rotary files in root canal preparation is inevitable due to their high speed and reduced duration of treatment. However, microcracks and even root fracture may sometimes occur in teeth where canal(s) is/are prepared using these devices. The purpose of the current study was to compare NeoNiti single-file with RaCe multi-file rotary systems.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: An accurate scanner designed detailed three-dimensional file models, and a simulated model was developed using canal-specific features; including dentin thickness, root canal length, taper rate and root canal curv
