Aim of this study was to evaluate the characteristic features of patients with mesothelial cyst of the round ligament of the uterus and the incidence of this entity. This was a retrospective review of 3065 patients who underwent inguinal exploration for groin mass from 1998 to 2013. Clinical, radiological and histopathological features of patients with a diagnosis of mesothelial cyst of the round ligament were analyzed. Groin swelling first evokes inguinal or femoral hernia but many other conditions may account for it. We describe varicosities of round ligament in a 27-year-old pregnant woman. She presented with a groin mass mimicking an inguinal hernia. Diagnosis was made during surgical exploration. This case report strengthens the fact that varicosities of the round ligament, favoured by hormonal and mechanical factors, should be evoked in a pregnant woman complaining of a groin mass. Ultrasonographic examination of the groin should be performed in such cases to avoid unnecessary surgery.

The inclusion of novocain blocade of the round ligament of the liver in the complex of conservative treatment of 312 patients with diseases of the gallbladder, pancreas, stomach and duodenum results in more rapid subsidence of the pain syndrome and a stable therapeutic effect. The simplicity and safety of the method allow to recommend the novocain blocade both in the hospital and in ambulatory conditions, as well as in remote and almost inaccessible localities, on ship vessels in far trips.

RATIONALE: Gastric perforation is a rare but life-threatening complication of gastric cancer, often presenting with acute peritonitis and requiring emergent surgical repair. The conventional treatment relies on an omental patch (Graham's technique); however, this approach is not always feasible, particularly in patients with advanced disease or omental involvement.

A 12-year-old adolescent was diagnosed with a right-sided solid mass in the round ligament of the uterus. The chief complaints were abdominal pain and pelvic discomfort. She underwent laparoscopic tumor resection. PURPOSE: To demonstrate the benefit and safety of conservative therapy for round ligament varicosities (RLVs) that are easily misdiagnosed as inguinal hernias.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed clinical materials of 41 consecutive cases of RLVs diagnosed by ultrasound in a single hospital from January 2011 to December 2015. Misdiagnosis rate, clinical and sonographic features, management after diagnosis and prognosis were recorded.
RESULTS: All forty-one cases were pregnant females in their second or third trimester. Twenty-eight cases were first misdiagnosed as inguinal hernias (68.3%).

Hydroxyapatite (HA) crystal deposition disease is a common cause of acute inflammatory articular or periarticular pain. Here we report a patient with an acute hip arthritis due to HA crystal deposition of the round ligament. Therefore, HA crystal deposition in periarticular tendons and ligaments of the hip should be added to the differential diagnosis of an acute hip arthritis. Computed tomographic scan may be useful when standard radiographs do not evidence the calcification.
