The authors report one case of granulocytic sarcoma infiltrating the larynx and cervical lymph nodes in a 50-year-old smoking patient. At the time of diagnosis there was no clinical and laboratory evidence of acute myeloid leukemia or chronic myeloproliferative disease. Four months after diagnosis, bone marrow morphology was consistent with chronic myeloid leukemia, accelerated phase. Cytogenetic abnormalities (Ph 1 chromosome, t(1; 12) (p36; p13), and trisomy of chromosome 20) were also found in hemopoetic cells. Granulocytic sarcoma preceding installation of chronic myeloid leukemia, as desc

PURPOSE: The impact of myeloid sarcoma (MS) on clinical outcome of pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients remains controversial. Moreover, little is known about the role of stem cell transplantation (SCT) in such patients.
METHODS: Clinical data of patients with AML under 18 years of age were retrieved from the TARGET dataset. We analyzed the prevalence, clinical profile, molecular characteristics, and prognosis of MS in these patients.
RESULTS: Among 884 pediatric patients with AML, the frequency of MS was 12.3%. Pediatric AML with MS was associated with age under 1-year, abnormal

Myeloid sarcoma is an extramedullary manifestation of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and sometimes is the only indicator of the disease. The incidence varies between 3-9.1% of acute leukaemia cases. The blast infiltration is seen most commonly in skin, lymph node, gastrointestinal tract, bone, soft tissue though can involve any body site usually as a solitary lesion and is rarely seen in nasal cavity. We present two cases of myeloid sarcoma presenting as a nasal mass in a six year old girl and other as orbital mass in 32-year-old as an initial manifestation of acute myeloid leukaemia. Histopathologic

We conducted a retrospective study of patients with cutaneous myeloid sarcoma, from 2 tertiary care institutions. Eighty-three patients presented, with a mean age of 52 years. Diagnosis of myeloid sarcoma in the skin was difficult due to the low frequency of myeloperoxidase and/or CD34+ cases (56% and 19% of tested cases, respectively). Seventy-one of the 83 patients (86%) had ≥ 1 bone marrow biopsy. Twenty-eight (39%) had acute myeloid leukemia with monocytic differentiation. Twenty-three had other de novo acute myeloid leukemia subtypes. Thirteen patients had other myeloid neoplasms, of whic

Primary myeloid sarcoma arising in the prostate is an exceptionally rare extramedullary manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia. Its nonspecific clinical presentation frequently leads to diagnostic delay or misdiagnosis. This report aims to enhance clinical awareness and diagnostic accuracy through a detailed analysis of a representative case and a systematic review of the existing literature. We report a 74-year-old male initially misdiagnosed as benign prostatic hyperplasia, confirmed post-PKRP by MPO-positive pathology. He received AML-directed systemic chemotherapy after transfer to hemato

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare solid malignant tumor formed by the proliferation and infiltration of primitive granulocytes or immature myeloid cells in extramedullary tissues. MS is usually associated with acute myeloid leukemia. MS can occur in any part of the body, and this case involves multiple occurrences in the lower leg. There are currently few reports on the ultrasonic manifestations of MS. In this case, the initial ultrasound findings suggested a benign lesion, which was inconsistent with the patient's known history of AML. However, the decision to perform a biopsy led to the correct

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare neoplasm characterized by the proliferation of immature myeloid precursor cells outside the bone marrow. The pathogenesis of MS is complex and not completely understood. Moreover, it develops in any extramedullary site of the body. In this editorial, we discuss the article published by Li et al, which presents a clinical case involving a 32-year-old man who exhibited gingival inflammation in the maxillary region. It was initially diagnosed as periodontal disease. However, clinical evaluation revealed a firm, grayish-white mass which underscored the need for compr

UNLABELLED: A myeloid sarcoma is an extramedullary tumour arising from infiltration by leukemic cells at an anatomic site other than the bone marrow. Most commonly it precedes acute myeloid leukaemia but occasionally occurs simultaneously. It may also be associated with myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplastic syndrome and the blast phase of chronic myeloid leukaemia. The most common sites for extramedullary tumours are bone, periosteum, soft tissue, lymph node and skin. Although this disease can affect a wide range of body sites, there are very few reports of peritoneal myeloid sarcoma o

OBJECTIVE: Intracranial myeloid sarcomas (IMS) are rare central nervous system manifestations of malignant hematopoietic neoplasms of myeloid origin such as acute myeloid leukemia and chronic myeloid leukemia. Reported cases in the literature are limited to primarily case reports. We present a systematic review of this rare central nervous system tumor, characterizing the clinical presentation, tumor location, histopathology, and available treatment modalities. We correlate these variables with mortality, recurrence, and complications to suggest optimal management strategies for IMS.

INTRODUCTION: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary mass, consisting of myeloid blasts with or without maturation, which efface the normal tissue architecture. It occurs mainly in lymph nodes, skin and soft tissue, testis, bone, peritoneum, and gastrointestinal tract, but rarely in the pancreas. Because their clinical courses, treatments, and prognoses are quite different, it is crucially important to distinguish between MS and pancreatic cancer.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We herein report a rare case of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) which presented with a pancreatic mass that mimicked pancreatic c

Myeloid sarcomas can be detected in up to 30% of acute myeloid leukemia cases or occur de-novo without bone marrow involvement. The most frequent localization of myeloid sarcomas in the abdominal cavity is the small intestine, and gastric presentations are infrequent, frequently misdiagnosed, and a high level of suspicion should exist when the characteristic histomorphology features are present. The current review features a case report with gastric presentation of myeloid sarcoma in a patient with a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia with trisomy 8. In addition, a review of the literature of

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a malignant extramedullary tumor consisting of immature cells of myeloid origin. It may precede, present concurrently or follow acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in de novo case or may also be present and might be the only manifestation of recurrent AML, myelodysplastic syndrome, or chronic myeloid leukemia. It frequently involves skin, orbit, bone, periosteum, lymph nodes, and gastrointestinal tract, soft tissue, central nervous system, and testis. Because of its different localization and symptoms, and the lack of diagnostic algorithm, MS is a real diagnostic challenge par

Myeloid sarcomas of the oral cavity are exceedingly rare. This report describes a recent case, and reviews the literature. This case report serves three purposes: 1) to demonstrate that the use of an intraoral biopsy can diagnose severe systemic disease; 2) to remind practitioners to be cognizant of less common diagnoses in the differential diagnosis of facial swelling; and 3) to contribute a case of myeloid sarcoma that was confirmed by flow cytometry to the published data.

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare tumor composed of proliferation of myeloid precursors at extramedullary sites. They can arise de-novo or in association with hematological malignancies, most commonly acute myeloid leukemia. Clinically, it can masquerade as an abscess, cutaneous ulcer, or mass lesion. Morphologically, MS can mimic a variety of small round cell tumors including lymphomas and rhabdomyosarcoma.
AIMS: (1) To study the clinical presentations and laboratory findings in patients with MS; (2) to revisit the histomorphological findings and the differential diagnosis of MS; (3

Leukemic infiltrates may be seen in the skin in the absence of detectable bone marrow involvement. Leukemia cutis may exceptionally occupy the eyelids. An unusual case of a 58-year-old man presenting bilateral erythematous eyelid lesions, proven to be aleukemic leukemia cutis, is reported. Biopsy was conducted and hematoxylin/eosin stained sections were histologically evaluated. Immunohistochemistry was also performed.Light microscopy revealed cutaneous infiltration by a neoplastic population consisting of medium-sized cells. These cells infiltrated the overlying epidermis leading to focal mic
