AIMS: To report the clinical and pathological features of a benign fibrous histiocytoma of the xanthomatous subtype in the perilimbal conjunctiva and adjacent sclera in a youth.
METHODS: An 11-year-old Caucasian boy presented with a yellowish dome-shaped conjunctival mass abutting the inferotemporal limbus of the left eye. The tumor measured 4 mm in its maximum diameter. The lesion was excised and was noted to extend into the sclera. Three years postoperatively, there was no evidence of recurrence.

We evaluated the Cutler-Beard bridge flap technique with the use of donor sclera for upper eyelid reconstruction. The right upper eyelid of a 22-year-old man (case 1) was bitten by a dog. A mass in the left upper eyelid of an 85-year-old man (case 2) was excised. Major full-thickness defects of the eyelid with small loss of tarsus were reconstructed with the use of donor sclera. Good cosmetic results were obtained. Major full-thickness defects of the upper eyelid with small loss of tarsus may be effectively reconstructed by the Cutler-Beard technique with use of donor sclera.

A patient with Hunter's Syndrome (systemic mucopolysaccharidosis type II) was evaluated for bilateral uveal effusion syndrome. The right eye showed a circular peripheral choroidal detachment for 360 degrees. The left eye showed a larger circular peripheral choroidal detachment and an exudative retinal detachment. Evaluation of the sclera during combined sclerectomies and sclerostomies of the left eye revealed markedly thickening sclera and a reduced number of vortex veins. Two children born on Crete of consanguinous parents presented the following manifestations of the ocular type of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS): blue sclerae, keratoglobus and rupture of cornea following minor trauma. In cultivated fibroblasts of one of the patients there was no evidence of defective lysine hydroxylation. The possible relation of our case to a recent similar report by Judisch et al. (1976) is discussed. The ocular type of EDS may be genetically heterogenous. Provisionally, we propose for cases with normal lysyl hydroxylation in vitro the term 'type VIII of EDS'.
