Following the military's advancement of prehospital blood into the field, civilian prehospital blood programs are becoming more prevalent. However, there are significant differences between civilian and military prehospital operations that should be considered. Civilian prehospital systems also vary widely in terms of resources, transport times, and patient types. Given these variations and the logistical challenges associated with establishing a prehospital blood program, careful consideration of the state of the science is warranted. Although blood is the preferred fluid for patients in hemo

Hemorrhagic shock in pediatric trauma patients remains a challenging yet preventable cause of death. There is little high-quality evidence available to guide specific aspects of hemorrhage control and specific resuscitation practices in this population. We sought to generate clinical recommendations, expert consensus, and good practice statements to aid providers in care for these difficult patients. The Pediatric Traumatic Hemorrhagic Shock Consensus Conference process included systematic reviews related to six subtopics and one consensus meeting. A panel of 16 consensus multidisciplinary comm

'I want to erase him from my memory,' she said, 'his eyes, his eyes staring at me … they are there every night, his hand … every night it hits me again and again …'. On the basis of these few words taken from the therapeutic work with Keltoum, the author reflects theoretically and clinically on the place of memory in a traumatism: a fixed memory, a 'frozen image', the signs of a traumatic compulsion to repeat, are the expressions of a process of psychic disorganization but also of a 'symbolized and symbolizing' memory anticipating a possible historicization of this memory, of a path, therefore

Rats were bled to a mean arterial pressure of 40 mm Hg until the onset of decompensatory shock (marked by the need to return some blood in order to maintain the blood pressure) at which time all the shed blood was returned. 31P-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of their livers were collected during the shock and a subsequent 60 min recovery period. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels fell linearly with time, in some instances to zero during shock. ATP recovery was very rapid after return of shed blood but did not return to its preshock values. Levels of ATP remained stable during the 60

PURPOSE: To assess the frequency of hypovolemic shock complex (HSC) signs on CT in patients who presented to the emergency department (ED) with undifferentiated non-traumatic shock. Secondary aim was to assess the correlation between HSC signs and all-cause mortality.
METHODS: This retrospective, single-center study included 100 patients who underwent contrast-enhanced thoraco-abdominal CT in the ED to evaluate the etiology for non-traumatic undifferentiated shock. All patients were retrospectively assigned a shock subtype (i.e., distributive, cardiogenic, hypovolemic, obstructive, multifacto
