Ejiao exhibits identical spectral characteristics with those of reference gelatin in Murphy's UV spectrophotometry and color-yielding reactions performed according to Gornall's biuret and Lowry's Folin phenol procedures respectively. Results of protein assays of Ejiao measured by above-mentioned photometric methods were in good approximation to each other using gelatin as standard and comparable with that of Kjeldahl nitrogen determination.

In the present study the concentration of selected elements in tissues of domestic rabbits and of wild brown-hares (kidneys, liver, and muscle - m. quadriceps femoris) in Slovakian habitats were determined. After mineralization the elements examined were detected using flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry/graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry was employed in an evaluation of zinc, copper and iron as trace elements in serum and erythrocytes from 56 children with protein-calorie malnutrition at different stages (early kwashiorkor, kwashiorkor and marasma). Iron and zinc concentrations showed a decreasing pattern through the various stages of the P.C.M. Significant changes are present in zinc values. The role of these trace elements in the P.C.M. is shortly discussed.

Hydrolysis of 2,4-dithiophenobarbital in aqueous solutions of pH 2-12 was investigated at 40 and 60 degrees C using UV spectrophotometry. The values of reaction order, rate constants, pKa1 and pKa2 and activation energy were determined. The preliminary estimation of degradation products was accomplished using thin layer chromatography. The major products were isolated by circular chromatography and identified by spectroscopic and classical methods.

Is to develop a methodology for extraction, identification and quantification of perchlozon from biological fluids for the purposes of chemico-toxicological analysis. The article describes the selection of optimal conditions for sample preparation, allowing to extract the perchlozon most effectively. The methodology is tested on model mixtures of biological fluids (urine, saliva, blood plasma). Identification and quantification were performed using UV spectrophotometry and high-performance liquid chromatography.

The occurrence of nine elements in the coxarthrosis human femoral capitula is described. The atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) method was used to determine Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu, Mn, Fe, Zn, Ni and Co concentrations in the three kinds of tissues: spongious and cortical bone and joint surface cartilage. Based on the Pb bone concentrations, an ecotoxicological Pb contamination risk for the industrial region can be predicted.

Hydrophobic characteristics of phenothiasine 10-acyl derivatives obtained by alkaline hydrolysis of native compounds permit their separation from native phenothiasine 10-alkyl derivatives during re-extraction from organic phase by 0.5 N solution of sulfuric acid. Separation of the two main groups of phenothiasine derivatives during the re-extraction phase improves the specificity of their further detection by thin-layer chromatography, spectrophotometry, and staining reactions.

Changes of the lipoprotein (LP) level in blood in the abdominal aorta and the portal and hepatic veins were studied in experiments on rabbits with Cannon's traumatic shock. The LP level was determined by spectrophotometry. The blood LP level changed depending on the stage of the shock. Administration of superoxide dismutase (an enzyme whose biosubstrates are only products of a free-radical process) in the initial period of shock has a normalizing effect on the level of the main LP classes.

The concentrations of serum selenium were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry in 139 patients with tumors in cranium cavity. The data from patients were compared with those from a reference group of 294 healthy adult individuals. The serum concentrations of selenium is significantly decreased (p less than 0.001) in patients with malignant tumors. The authors discuss the possibilities for treatment of malignant tumours of central nervous system with selenium.
