Nine vital tapeworms were expelled from 7 patients with diphyllobothriasis latum by the modified Damaso De Rivas' method. Seven worms of them placed in 1% and 5% paromomycin solution (37 degrees C, pH 6.8--6.9) and 2 were in physiological saline at 37 degrees C as controls. In both 1% and 5% solution, the movement of worms stopped completely within 15 minutes. When they were taken out from the solution and washed thoroughly with physiological saline solution, they did not move any longer and died soon. A new dosage form of gentamicin, 0.3 per cent eye drops with polyglucin was developed. Its pharmacokinetics and chemotherapeutic properties were studied. It was shown that in the form of eye drops gentamicin has a prolonged action, provides high levels of penetration into the eye tissues and is effective in the treatment of eye infections.

Vitamin A deficiency has been shown to produce a reduction in the sulfation process. Somatomedin, a growth hormone dependent factor has also been shown to stimulate the uptake of sulfate by cartilage. Studies were therefore carried out on vitamin A-deficient rats to determine both in vitro and in vivo uptake of sulfate by cartilage, the activity of enzymes believed to be involved in the sulfation process and overall sulfate kinetics. I describe 110 patients in whom diseased and destructed bone was restored to normal healthy bone. The first ten patients were healed by using bismuth-iodoform, and the following 100 patients were treated using the hemihydrate of calcium sulfate (CaSO4.2H3O). We present the case of two siblings with acrodermatitis enteropathica. Zinc levels were low. Oral administration of 100 mg of zinc sulfate allowed total regression of all signs. When zinc therapy was interrupted, the manifestations reappeared and disappeared again when treatment was resumed. A defect of genetic origin in digestive zinc absorption is suggested. Mohnahan's advocated zinc treatment of acrodermatitis enteropathica in 1973; it is a non-toxic treatment, which is always active and be considered as a diagnostic test.

Control of a case of acrodermatitis enteropathica was achieved initially after three months of treatment with diiodohydroxyquin (Diodoquin). Reexacerbation of acrodermatitis enteropathica was noted two months after diiodohydroxyquin was discontinued. Treatment with zinc sulfate was substituted and resulted in dramatic and complete resolution of disease within 48 hours.
