Large Language Models for Endodontic Symptom Assessment and Treatment Planning Using Image-Free Clinical Records: Comparative Evaluation Study.

BACKGROUND: Accurate assessment of pulpal status is essential for achieving successful endodontic outcomes. However, direct evaluation remains inherently challenging because the pulp is surrounded by calcified tissue, necessitating reliance on clinical and radiographic examinations for diagnostic and prognostic decision-making. These procedures demand substantial clinical expertise and time, and less-experienced clinicians often face challenges that may lead to errors in diagnosis and treatment planning. Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) offer promising opportunities to enhan

Validation of the Asian constipation assessment initiative questionnaire: a cross-sectional study on symptom reporting and constipation awareness.

OBJECTIVE: Current patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for chronic constipation (CC) have been predominantly developed for Western populations, often neglecting cultural factors critical to Asian contexts. This study aimed to psychometrically validate the Asian Constipation Assessment Initiative Questionnaire (ACAIQ), codesigned with patients experiencing CC and clinicians in Singapore, and examine the effect of constipation awareness on symptom reporting. METHODS: A cross-sectional study enrolled 259 participants with CC (Rome IV criteria) and 153 healthy controls between 9 December 20

Validation and Development Testing of the Symptom Group Assessment Scale for Patients With Sudden Deafness: A Comprehensive Study.

BACKGROUND: The objective is to create a symptom assessment scale specifically designed for people experiencing sudden deafness and thereafter evaluate its reliability and validity. METHODS: A literature review and semi-structured interviews were used to create a symptom experience model-based scale item pool. After two rounds of expert deliberation, the first scale was finalised. An initial 30-item survey provided descriptive definitions and reference standards for symptom severity. One hundred sixty patients completed the questionnaire, but 7 patients who did not meet the requirements were …

Holistic Assessment of Factors Associated with Exhaustion, the Main Symptom of Burnout: A Meta-Analysis of Longitudinal Studies.

BACKGROUND: This meta-analysis summarized longitudinal findings pertaining to exhaustion's predictors. In so doing, our aim was ultimately to identify target factors for the prevention of burnout. METHODS: We searched for studies that (a) examined predictors of exhaustion longitudinally and (b) reported correlation coefficients as an effect estimate. We conducted our literature search in three databases: MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and Embase. We focused on studies published between January 1990 and November 2020. Predictors were grouped into families, subfamilies, and subgroups. A meta-analysis of z-

Validity assessment of the symptom checklist SCL-90-R and shortened versions for the general population in Ukraine.

BACKGROUND: The Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) is a widely used symptomatic distress questionnaire. A translated version of the SCL-90-R has been applied in Ukrainian general population surveys several times but has not yet been validated in this country. The SCL-90-R and its short versions (BSI-53, SCL-27, BSI-18, SCL-14 and SCL-9-K) were investigated in order to comparatively assess their properties and applications in Ukraine. METHODS: Secondary analysis of three nationally representative cross-sectional surveys (1997, 1999 and 2014) using SCL-90-R was applied. Two thousand sixty

Medical management of frontotemporal dementias: the importance of the caregiver in symptom assessment and guidance of treatment strategies.

There are no currently Food and Drug Administration-approved or proven off-label treatments for the frontotemporal dementias (FTD). Clinicians, caregivers, and patients struggle regularly to find therapeutic regimens that can alleviate the problematic behavioral and cognitive symptoms associated with these devastating conditions. Success is "hit or miss" and the lessons learned are largely anecdotal to date. Drug discovery in this area has been largely hampered by the heterogeneous clinical presentations and pathological phenotypes of disease that represent significant obstacles to progress in

Reliability of EP3OS symptom criteria and nasal endoscopy in the assessment of chronic rhinosinusitis--a GA² LEN study.

BACKGROUND: The European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps (EP3OS) incorporates symptomatic, endoscopic, and radiologic criteria in the clinical diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), while in epidemiological studies, the definition is based on symptoms only. We aimed to assess the reliability and validity of a symptom-based definition of CRS using data from the GA(2) LEN European survey. METHODS: On two separate occasions, 1700 subjects from 11 centers provided information on symptoms of CRS, allergic rhinitis, and asthma. CRS was defined by the epidemiological EP3OS symp

Excellent agreement between genetic and hydrogen breath tests for lactase deficiency and the role of extended symptom assessment.

Clinical manifestations of lactase (LCT) deficiency include intestinal and extra-intestinal symptoms. Lactose hydrogen breath test (H2-BT) is considered the gold standard to evaluate LCT deficiency (LD). Recently, the single-nucleotide polymorphism C/T(-13910) has been associated with LD. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate the agreement between genetic testing of LCT C/T(-13910) and lactose H2-BT, and the diagnostic value of extended symptom assessment. Of the 201 patients included in the study, 194 (139 females; mean age 38, range 17-79 years, and 55 males, mean age 38, rang…

[Objective assessment of disorders of visual perception following unilateral vestibular loss. Studies of the so-called Dandy symptom].

Visual ability and compensatory eye movements during defined vertical oscillation were investigated in 20 patients with unilateral lesions of labyrinthine function and in 20 normal subjects. Oscillation frequencies were performed at the rate of 1 to 1.5 Hz with an amplitude of 5 cm, comparative to head locomotions of a running person. In synchronism with this, the visual function was tested with Landolt rings. Patients complaining of subjective visual disturbance during walking and running, also presented a measurable blur of vision under test conditions. In addition, eye movements were record

Assessing symptoms in gastroesophageal reflux disease: how well do clinicians' assessments agree with those of their patients?

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the extent of agreement between clinicians and patients regarding assessments of reflux symptom severity in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease. METHODS: Data were analyzed from four randomized clinical trials involving 2,674 patients treated with esomeprazole, omeprazole, ranitidine, or placebo. The extent of agreement was determined for symptom severity before and after 4-8 wk of treatment, and for the absence of symptoms after treatment. Agreement was further analyzed by determining weighted kappa values, which were interpreted according

Development of a novel location-based assessment of sensory symptoms in cancer patients: preliminary reliability and validity assessment.

We report on the development of a novel location-based assessment of sensory symptoms in cancer (L-BASIC) instrument, and its initial estimates of reliability and validity. L-BASIC is structured so that patients provide a numeric score and an adjectival description for any sensory symptom, including both pain and neuropathic sensations, present in each of the 10 predefined body areas. Ninety-seven patients completed the baseline questionnaire; 39 completed the questionnaire on two occasions. A mean of 3.5 body parts was scored per patient. On average, 2.7 (of 11) descriptor categories were use
