BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is commonly associated with transverse sinus stenosis, a venous cause of pulsatile tinnitus. In patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension, CSF drainage via lumbar puncture decreases intracranial pressure, which relieves the stenosis, and may provide at least temporary cessation of pulsatile tinnitus. The objective of this study was to evaluate changes in venous blood flow caused by lowered intracranial pressure in patients with pulsatile tinnitus to help identify the cause of pulsatile tinnitus.

BACKGROUND: Over the past decade, stenting of lateral sinus stenosis has been used to treat idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Two types of stenoses have been identified: extrinsic and intrinsic.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to report the results of our use of this procedure to treat patients with extrinsic or intrinsic stenoses in idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
METHODS: We retrospectively studied clinical, radiological, and manometric data from patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension who were treated at our institution between January 2009 and January 2015 by st

Behçet's disease is a multisystemic vasculitis characterized by the association of recurrent oral and genital ulcers with systemic involvements, particularly ocular, nervous and vascular manifestations. The association of Behçet's disease and aids/HIV infection is rare. The role of HIV infection in the pathomechanism of both diseases is unclear. We report a 28-year-old HIV-positive patient who presented Behçet's disease complicated by deep vein thrombosis and left lateral sinus thrombosis. This rare association raises questions about the etiopathogenic process and therapeutic management.

INTRODUCTION: Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a rare but serious manifestation of venous thromboembolism (VTE), accounting for 0.5-1% of all strokes. While typically affecting younger females, its diagnosis remains challenging due to nonspecific presentations. Risk factors include hormonal therapy, thrombophilia, and hematologic disorders, with emerging links to COVID-19/vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Although combined oral contraceptives are known to increase thrombotic risk, the association between progestogen-only agents such as noret

Background and Clinical Significance: The occurrence of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), both with or without thrombocytopenia, following COVID-19 vaccination, is well documented and more common in recipients of vector vaccines. Cases of CVST following immunization with the COVID-19 messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine are rare; most of these cases occur within 28 days of the first dose of the vaccine. Case Presentation: We present the case of a 38-year-old male with a history of two episodes of deep vein thrombosis in the lower limbs, but without a specific thrombophilic condition, who develo

The orbitotemporal venous sinuses accompany the intracranial branches of the stapedial artery. These sinuses are large in primitive primates and drain the extensive territories supplied by the stapedial artery as well as the brain. The orbit is drained by a wide cranio-orbital sinus which empties into the postglenoid emissary vein. Also emptying into the postglenoid vein is the petrosquamous sinus. The latter diverts cerebral blood from the transverse sinus and also drains the temporalis muscle. Emptying into both the cranio-orbital and petrosquamous sinuses are meningeal tributaries, which dr

UNLABELLED: Penetrating injuries to the posterior dural venous sinuses (DVSs), which include the transverse sinus, sigmoid sinus, and torcular Herophili, are rare, life-threatening events with no standardized management protocols. This study aims to elucidate the injury mechanisms, management strategies, and outcomes associated with these injuries. A systematic review of all reported cases of penetrating posterior DVS injury was conducted on February 08, 2026. The systematic review yielded 10 studies comprising 43 patients. Demographic data were reported for eight of these 43 patients (18.6%).

Cerebral venous thrombosis is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening condition. We present the case of a previously healthy 26-year-old woman who developed cerebral venous thrombosis while using a combined hormonal contraceptive. She presented with progressive headaches unresponsive to analgesics. Imaging confirmed thrombosis in the left transverse and sigmoid sinuses and the left internal jugular vein. Anticoagulation was initiated with full resolution of symptoms and thrombus. Extensive thrombophilia screening was negative, and combined hormonal contraceptive use was identified as the

Dural fistulas are acquired arteriovenous shunts, accounting for 10-15p.cent of cerebrovascular malformations. Symptoms are commonly tinnitus or intracranial hemorrhage. Rarely, patients with dural fistulas can present with rapid cognitive impairment. We report two women with rapidly evolving dementia. Cerebral angiography revealed dural arteriovenous fistula, with retrograde drainage into cortical veins, related to thrombosis of both transverse sinuses. Intra-arterial and intra-venous endovascular approaches failed to cure the fistula. Venous embolization via a transcranial approach was requi…

Most neurological complications of the Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome are due to the presence of cerebral or spinal arteriovenous malformations and their consequences. We report 2 cases of unusual complications of this syndrome. In the first case, where the anomalies were restricted to the left upper extremity, the occurrence of hand numbness led to the discovery of a carpal tunnel syndrome, probably due to the lymphatic abnormal proliferation within the carpal tunnel. In the second case the disease was much more widespread and affecting, among other localizations, the cephalic extremity. The pati

Hypervitaminosis A may be associated with benign intracranial hypertension. So far, the explanation for this phenomenon has remained obscure. A 17-year-old patient with benign intracranial hypertension, following chronic vitamin A intake of 150,000 units daily for acne vulgaris, is presented. Bilateral papilledema was present and bilateral obstruction of the transverse sinuses was demonstrated in the late venous phase of cerebral angiography. Discontinuation of vitamin A and acetazolamide treatment was followed by complete regression of the signs and symptoms of intracranial hypertension. Bila…

Pregnancy and puerperium are known conditions associated with venous thrombotic events, which may present atypically in cases such as cerebral venous thrombosis. Since these are uncommon events, there is a paucity of reports and protocols for the management of these patients, resulting in no clear consensus in the literature. We report a case of a woman, nine weeks pregnant, who developed thrombosis of the right transverse and superior sagittal sinuses. Our diagnosis was made with computed tomography angiography, and due to a significant midline shift, an emergency decompressive hemicraniectom

A healthy, middle-aged man presented with acute on chronic progressive photophobia, headache and visual impairment. Clinical workup demonstrated advanced papilledema, tortuous optic nerves, flattened globes and intracranial pressure of >55 cm H2O. Diagnostic cerebral angiogram demonstrated a Cognard IIA tentorial dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF) associated with transverse sinus stenosis. Venous manometry demonstrated a pressure gradient of 28 mm Hg across the stenosis. Given acute symptoms of elevated intracranial pressure and significant functional gradient, venous sinus balloon angioplasty

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The correct positioning of the transverse-sigmoid sinus junction (TSSJ) during retrosigmoid craniotomy (RC) is crucial for enhancing surgical efficiency and preventing complications. An augmented reality technology may provide low-cost guidance for the TSSJ position. The authors aimed to investigate the clinical application of a self-developed mobile augmented reality navigation system (MARNS) for TSSJ positioning during RC and present their findings.
METHODS: This observational research enrolled patients who underwent RC at Fujian Provincial Hospital from May 2023

External auditory canal (EAC) carcinoma is a rare and unusual malignancy. The complex anatomy and relationship between the tumor and surrounding tissues in a limited space render it difficult to attain safe resection margins during surgery. A high jugular bulb (HJB) is one such anatomical variation that has important surgical implications that complicate the surgical procedure for EAC carcinoma. A 73-year-old woman presented with a 3-month history of right ear pain. Pathological findings and computed tomography (CT) revealed EAC carcinoma, which was expanding to the middle ear (ME). Although t

PURPOSE: The aim of the present research was to evaluate the regeneration effect of injectable-platelet rich fibrin (I-PRF) in lateral sinus lift.
METHODS: A total of 46 cases, who lost their single posterior tooth with residual bone height of 3-5 mm, who needed lateral sinus lift, were treated in our hospital for implantation from June 2014 to Jun 2015. They were randomly divided into 2 groups. In group A, Bio-oss was used as a sole grafting material to fill the sinus; in group B, Bio-oss was used in combination with I-PRF to fill the sinus. Cone-beam CT (CBCT) was taken preoperatively, the
