Unraveling middle childhood attachment-related behavior sequences using a micro-coding approach.

Attachment theory states that children learn to trust in their parent's availability and support if they repeatedly experience that their parents respond sensitively to their needs during distress. Attachment is thus developed and shaped by day-to-day interactions, while at the same time, each interaction is a momentary expression of the attachment relation. How attachment-related behaviors of mother and child follow upon each other during interactions in middle childhood, and how these sequences differ in function of attachment quality, has hardly been studied up to now. To fill this gap, we

Low rate of necrotizing enterocolitis in extremely low birth weight infants using a hospital-based preterm milk bank.

OBJECTIVE: We examined the effect of two strategies to prevent necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants-adherence to a standardized feeding protocol and use of a hospital-based milk bank to provide exclusive preterm human milk feedings. STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a single-center observational study from 2010 to 2015. Infants received preterm human milk, initially trophic feeds from days 7 to 14 after birth, followed by advancement of 15 mL/kg/day to reach a goal of 180 mL/kg/day. Fortification was used selectively for weight gain < 15 g/kg/day. We determine

Feasibility of abdominoplasty with Cesarean section.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Abdominoplasty is an esthetic surgical procedure that restores abdominal contouring. Repeated pregnancies combined with advancing maternal age usually lead to lower abdominal skin redundancy and excess fat accumulation. Delivery via Cesarean section adds weakness to the lower abdominal wall muscles and yields a lower transverse Cesarean scar. Some patients request whether abdominoplasty can be performed with Cesarean section in the same setting, to avoid a future surgery. This study was designed to evaluate the outcome of combined abdominoplasty with Cesarean section. The study included 50 pre

Redox Imbalance in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: Mechanistic Insights, Emerging Biomarkers, and Therapeutic Perspectives.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is increasingly recognized as a complex pathology rooted in systemic and organelle-level dysfunction, specifically involving chronic low-grade inflammation (CLGI), mitochondrial impairment, and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Central to this pathophysiology is mitochondrial dysfunction, characterized by reduced respiration, impaired metabolic flexibility, and dysregulated fission/fusion machinery, which fuels a self-perpetuating cycle of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Concurrently, chronic ER stress triggered by hyperglycemia and lipotoxicity a

Body image and social media as predictors of pregnancy health behaviors.

Pregnancy is a time of profound physical and psychological change, during which health behaviors can affect maternal and fetal outcomes. This study aimed to examine how body image and perceived media portrayals of pregnancy are associated with health behaviors among pregnant women. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 921 participants across multiple Polish regions. Standardized instruments measured health-promoting behaviors, body esteem, and perceptions of media portrayals of pregnancy. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to identify clinical, psychological, and sociocultural pr

Current Concepts in Brachial Plexus Birth Injuries: A Comprehensive Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND: Brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI) encompasses a spectrum of upper extremity paralysis cases following childbirth. The etiology of BPBI is multifactorial, involving maternal, obstetric, and neonatal associative factors. Despite opportunities for spontaneous recovery, recent literature demonstrates that a significant proportion of infants experience residual deficits and functional limitations as they age. Understanding the complex anatomy of the brachial plexus, clinical presentations of the pathology, diagnostic workup, current treatment options, and common secondary sequelae is

Placental Assessment Using Microvascular Flow Imaging: Reference Ranges and Clinical Application.

OBJECTIVES: To establish gestational age-specific reference ranges for the intraplacental vascular index measured using microvascularity-flow ultrasound software (VIMV) and to evaluate its variation by placental location, parity, and pregnancy outcome. METHODS: This prospective study enrolled 354 singleton pregnancies, of which 243 (68.64%) uncomplicated cases were used to construct reference ranges. A residual bootstrap method with 500 iterations was applied to square-root-transformed VIMV values, followed by back-transformation to derive the 5th, 50th, and 95th percentiles with 95% confiden

The amniotic fluid proteome changes with gestational age in normal pregnancy: a cross-sectional study.

The cell-free transcriptome in amniotic fluid (AF) has been shown to be informative of physiologic and pathologic processes in pregnancy; however, the change in AF proteome with gestational age has mostly been studied by targeted approaches. The objective of this study was to describe the gestational age-dependent changes in the AF proteome during normal pregnancy by using an omics platform. The abundance of 1310 proteins was measured on a high-throughput aptamer-based proteomics platform in AF samples collected from women during midtrimester (16-24 weeks of gestation, n = 15) and at term with

Paediatric HIV update.

Less than half of the paediatric HIV infections recorded in Australia have resulted from perinatal transmission, but in recent years this has been the predominant mode of infection. There are 136 infants who are known to have been exposed perinatally to HIV in Australia: 49 of these are infected. Caesarean section is thought now not to reduce the risk of perinatal transmission (PNT); rather, the risk increases with duration of membrane rupture and rises rapidly after 4 h of membrane rupture. However, no data exist to show that interventions to expediate delivery after membrane rupture reduce t

Short term outcome of neonatal venous thromboembolism in anticoagulated versus observed patients.

BACKGROUND: Advancements in the medical field and increased survival of premature infants have led to a rise of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in neonates. Neonatal hemostasis exists in a delicate balance with a propensity towards pro-coagulation. Current recommendations include careful observation, therapeutic anti-coagulation and in some cases thrombolysis. We hypothesize that a sub-group of neonates may not require anti-coagulation and could be safely observed thus reducing their risk of bleeding complications. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective chart review of patients with VTE admitted

Global report on preterm birth and stillbirth (2 of 7): discovery science.

BACKGROUND: Normal and abnormal processes of pregnancy and childbirth are poorly understood. This second article in a global report explains what is known about the etiologies of preterm births and stillbirths and identifies critical gaps in knowledge. Two important concepts emerge: the continuum of pregnancy, beginning at implantation and ending with uterine involution following birth; and the multifactorial etiologies of preterm birth and stillbirth. Improved tools and data will enable discovery scientists to identify causal pathways and cost-effective interventions. PREGNANCY AND PARTURITIO
