Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare vascular tumor of endothelial cell origin. We describe an EHE arising on the plantar surface of the foot that was treated as verruca vulgaris for several years before a biopsy showed EHE. We discuss the clinical and histopathologic differential diagnoses for these tumors and review additional cases in which EHE has been mistaken for benign entities clinically.

This study explored the vulnerability of the ductus deferens due to mesh induced inflammation and shrinkage after hernia repair in the rodent model. Two commonly used types of hernioplastic implants (Prolene and Vypro II) were surgically wrapped around the ductus deferentes on both sides in 20 juvenile and 20 adult Sprague-Dawley rats. METHODS: Retrievable PTFE-covered nitinol stents were placed in the prostatic urethras of 8 beagle dogs under fluoroscopic guidance. Retrograde urethrography was obtained before and after stenting. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the tissue integration of and tolerance to five different mesh types used in genital prolapse surgery to provide mechanical support.
STUDY DESIGN: We placed five different meshes (Vicryl, Vypro, Prolene, Prolene soft, and Mersuture) on the peritoneums of 12 pigs. After 10 weeks, we used light microscopy to analyze the tissue integration of and tolerance to these meshes.
