PURPOSE: To report our findings in a patient with presumed Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease.
METHODS: Report of clinical findings, fundus images, optical coherence tomography, and ultrasonography.
RESULTS: A 19-year-old female patient who presented with an unusual form of symptoms that fit a disease called Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease. A large choroidal mass was observed in the posterior pole; a month later, the mass was completely gone.
CONCLUSION: Large choroidal masses can occur in patients with Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease, and these do not warrant treatment as they are self-limiting.

OBJECTIVES: Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome is the most common periodic fever syndrome during early childhood period with regular febrile attacks of sterile upper airway inflammation. The cessation of attacks following tonsillectomy points to fundamental role of tonsil tissue on etiopathogenesis of disease, which is not clarified satisfactorily. The aim of this study is to explore the immunological basis of PFAPA by evaluating the cellular properties of tonsils, and microbial exposition such as Helicobacter pylori on tonsillectomy materials.

A 23-year-old man presented with a 6-week history of fevers, cervical lymphadenopathy and fatigue. A CT of the neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis showed left cervical lymphadenopathy, enlarged lymph nodes in the axilla and groin and hepatomegaly. A left cervical excisional lymph node biopsy was undertaken and the histopathological findings were consistent with Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease. We report a case of a 45 year-old bisexual male with multiple enlarged cervical and inguinal lymph nodes. Malignant lymphoma was suspected. Initial fine needle aspirations and the following extirpation of a cervical lymph node revealed severe chronic inflammation. However, thorough blood screening was positive for syphilis. No lesions were found in the mouth, throat or anogenital region. The man was diagnosed as having secondary syphilis, and responded well to treatment with intramuscular benzathin penicillin.

Sebaceous adenitis is a suspected immune-mediated disease that targets and destroys sebaceous glands. This retrospective study evaluated the clinical presentation and incidence of sebaceous adenitis in Havanese dogs. Sebaceous adenitis was diagnosed in 35% (12 of 34) of Havanese dogs presented over a 5-year period. Onset of clinical signs occurred during young adulthood. Cyclosporin is currently considered a new and interesting drug in veterinary dermatology for the treatment of immune-mediated skin diseases, and a safe and effective alternative to immunosuppressive therapy with glucocorticoids. The authors report a case of granulomatous folliculitis and furunculosis and of sebaceous adenitis in two cats and a case of alopecia areata in a dog, successfully controlled with cyclosporin.

33 children with affected lymphadenoid throat ring and 15 healthy children were examined for local and general immunity status. Assessment of general immunity provided poor information. Measurements of secretion immunoglobulins levels with enzyme immunoassay was informative and demonstrated close similarity of the clinical and immunological indices. Concentrations of immunoglobulins in the lacunar secretion can serve a prognostic criterium.

We report on a case of axillary lymphadenopathy in a 40-year-old woman secondary to a bilateral silicone augmentation mammoplasty which occurred 10 years after surgery. Microscopic silicone leakage ("bleeding") from an intact prothesis lead to sizeable lymph node enlargement. The suspected malignant tumour (metastasis/malignant lymphoma) could be ruled out by histological examination of the lymph node.
