Surgical removal of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations subsequent to total cavopulmonary connection conversion long after a Björk procedure.

Because the cavopulmonary shunt procedure is widely used for palliation of complex congenital heart diseases, pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are relatively well-known complications. The reported patient was a 23-year-old woman who experienced PAVMs in the right lower lobe after a classical Glenn anastomosis and Björk procedure for tricuspid atresia. Her arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2) 14 years after the Björk procedure was ~80 %. She then underwent a total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC) conversion to reduce her PAVMs in the right lower lobe using the "hepatic factor." However

Diagnostic accuracy of myocardial hypoenhancement on multidetector computed tomography in identifying myocardial infarction in patients admitted with acute chest pain syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate prevalence and diagnostic accuracy of myocardial hypoenhancement (MH) using multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) in patients admitted for acute chest pain syndromes. METHODS: Sixty-nine patients underwent first-pass MDCT, coronary angiography, and echocardiography. Using a standardized analysis protocol, left ventricular short-axis reformations were evaluated for presence, size, and density of MH in 16 myocardial segments. These were correlated with the presence and location of myocardial infarction (MI), regional myocardial dysfunction, and coronary artery disease.

Using AI-Quantitative CT to evaluate the relationship between coronary artery calcium and segment involvement scores in quantifying coronary plaque burden.

PURPOSE: Accurate assessment of coronary plaque burden is essential for risk stratification in coronary artery disease (CAD). The Coronary Artery Disease – Reporting and Data System (CAD-RADS) 2.0 classification incorporates P-scores derived from coronary artery calcium (CAC) and segment involvement scores (SIS) to semi-quantitatively characterize plaque burden. However, limited data exist on the concordance and clinical implications of these two plaque characteristics. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 461 coronary CT angiography (CCTA) studies using a commercial AI-based quantitative CT (

Distinguishing cardiac myxomas from cardiac thrombi by a radiomics signature based on cardiovascular contrast-enhanced computed tomography images.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac myxomas (CMs) and thrombi are associated with high morbidity and mortality. These two conditions need totally different treatments. However, they are difficult to distinguish using naked eye. In clinical, misdiagnoses occur now and then. This study aimed to compare the characteristics of CMs and cardiac thrombi and investigate the value of a radiomics signature in distinguishing CMs from cardiac thrombi, based on cardiovascular contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) images. METHODS: A total of 109 patients who had CMs (n = 59) and cardiac thrombi (n = 50) were enroll

Stent Size Optimization in the Femoral Bifurcation Using a Fractal Model: A Morphological Analysis.

OBJECTIVES: Stenting of common femoral artery (CFA) bifurcation lesions is complex due to harmonious asymmetric geometry between the CFA and deep or superficial femoral artery. In order to ensure an optimal flow, the stents must be implanted according to the diameter of the CFA and the diameter of the daughter vessels. The aim of this study was to validate a mathematical formula for the CFA bifurcation in order to optimize the implantation of stents in this bifurcation with a fast and efficient method. MATERIALS/METHODS: We retrospectively included all patients who underwent transcatheter aor

Transsacral Osseous Corridor Anatomy Is More Amenable To Screw Insertion In Males: A Biomorphometric Analysis of 280 Pelves.

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous iliosacral screw placement is the standard procedure for fixation of posterior pelvic ring lesions, although a transsacral screw path is being used more frequently in recent years owing to increased fracture-fixation strength and better ability to fix central and bilateral sacral fractures. However, biomorphometric data for the osseous corridors are limited. Because placement of these screws in a safe and effective manner is crucial to using transsacral screws, we sought to address precise sacral anatomy in more detail to look for anatomic variation in the general popu

Plasma lipidomic analysis predicts non-calcified coronary artery plaque in asymptomatic patients at intermediate risk of coronary artery disease.

AIMS: The optimal management of asymptomatic subjects at intermediate risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) is often uncertain. Re-stratification to a high- or low-risk category may enable optimization of preventative strategies. Coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) enables a minimally invasive assessment of coronary artery plaque quantity and composition. Non-calcified plaque by CCTA is lipid-rich and more vulnerable to rupture and resultant acute coronary syndromes. The purpose of this study was to determine whether novel approaches to CAD risk stratification, such as plasma lipi
