[Juvenile open angle glaucoma with microcornea in oculo-dento-digital dysplasia (Meyer-Schwickerath-Weyers syndrome)].

HISTORY: An 8-year boy underwent bilateral repeat trabeculectomies with iridectomies at age 4 and 5 and cyclocryocoagulation of the right eye at age seven for glaucoma. FINDINGS: The first examination in our department revealed a visual acuity of OD light perception, OS 0.2. The right eye was exotropic and hypotropic. The intraocular pressure was 30 mm Hg in both eyes. The corneal diameters were OD 9.0 x 7.0 and OS 8.5 x 6.5 mm, while the axial length was OD 25.3 and OS 23.6 mm. Both eyes had slightly prominent filter blebs with uveal incarceration. The chamber angles were open in both eyes a

Localization of elastin in the normal and glaucomatous human trabecular meshwork.

PURPOSE: The extracellular materials (ECMs) in the trabecular meshwork (TM) are thought to play a crucial role in aqueous outflow resistance. Immunohistochemical localization of elastin, one of the major ECMs in the normal and glaucomatous human TM, was examined ultrastructurally. METHODS: Eight normal eye bank eyes and 16 trabeculectomy specimens of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG, 11 eyes from 8 cases), congenital glaucoma (2 eyes from 1 case), and juvenile glaucoma (3 eyes from 2 cases) were embedded in Lowicryl K4M at low temperature. The distribution of elastin was studied by the prote…

[The effect of the intraocular pressure reduction on glaucomatous disc changes and visual field defects].

The authors prospectively studied changes in the optic disc and visual field associated with intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction for one year after surgery in 12 primary open-angle glaucoma eyes of 7 patients who underwent trabeculectomy because of elevated IOP despite maximum tolerable medical therapy and whose cup volume was demonstrated to be decreased at 3 or 6 months after surgery. Topographic parameters including C/D ratio, rim area and cup volume were determined by the Optic Nerve Head Analyzer plus (Rodenstock). The 30-2 central threshold field was obtained with a Humphrey Field Analy…

Mitomycine, suterelysis and hypotony.

In 35 patients 37 trabeculectomies (TE) were performed using mitomycin as a fibrosisinhibitor. Mitomycin (0.5 mg/ml) was applied to the sclera (under the scleral flap) and conjunctiva in the area of the projected TE during 5 minutes using a small sponge. The indications for operation were: visual field progression in 15 eyes, too high IOP in 13 eyes and severe visual field defects (central island and/or centro coecal visual field defects) in 9 eyes. Six patients had Normal Pressure Glaucoma, 17 Primary Open Angle Glaucoma and 12 had other forms of glaucoma. There were 22 first TE's and 15 re-o
