BACKGROUND Carcinoid tumors are well-differentiated tumors that develop from neuroendocrine cells. They are rare tumors and occur most commonly in the gastrointestinal tract, followed by the pulmonary system. They usually present with abdominal pain or cough or persistent pneumonia. They are usually diagnosed with computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the chest or abdomen. The cornerstone of treatment is surgical resection. Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a non-malignant bone tumor that typically behaves as a slow and indolent growing mass lesion. We report the case of a female patient presenting with headache and facial deformity and later diagnosed with polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (PFD). A 29-year-old woman visited Mealhada Primary Health Care Unit complaining of headache, nasal congestion, and hyposmia for several weeks. She also presented with facial deformity and painful swelling of the upper left orbit. X-ray imaging revealed a suspicious opacity in the left frontal sinus and a right shift of the nasal septum.

BACKGROUND: To assess the prevalence of visual impairment and rate of wearing spectacles in schools for children of migrant workers in Shanghai, China.
METHODS: Children from grade 1 to 5 in schools for children of migrant workers were randomly chosen for ocular examinations. All children were screened for uncorrected visual acuity and presenting visual acuity. After screening, the children whose uncorrected visual acuity was 20/40 or less received ocular motility evaluation, cycloplegic refraction/non-cycloplegic refraction, and external eye, anterior segment, media, and fundus examinations.

A prospective study was undertaken on the incidence of intrauterine infections by screening 1302 cord blood samples for total IgM by radial immunodiffusion. Specific IgM against cytomegalovirus (CMV), rubella and Toxoplasma were estimated in cord blood samples found to contain total IgM > 20 mg/dl.
