Between December 2014 and June 2015, an outbreak of H5N2 HPAI caused the largest and most expensive agriculture emergency in U.S. Department of Agriculture-Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service history. Nosocomial neonatal candidiasis is a major problem in infants, which require intensive therapy. The subjects of the present study were three preterm infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of the General Hospital "Dr. Manuel Gea Gonzalez". The infants developed Candida parapsilosis infection on the mean age of 13.6 day of life. Infection prevention and control measures have been recognized as effective in minimizing the risk of infection from peripheral intravenous (IV) cannulas. However, this relies on health professionals' compliance with guidelines for the care of patients with IV catheters and at times it may be that practice is inconsistent with guidelines. This article discusses the care required for peripheral cannulas and shows how implementing the high-impact interventions can improve peripheral IV catheter care on insertion and its management afterwards.

We propose a simple and rapid method to discriminate SHV-type extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) genes in P. aeruginosa based on PCR techniques (PCR-RFLP and RSI-PCR). OBJECTIVE: To obtain accurate data regarding the handwashing behavior and patterns of visits to patients by healthcare workers (HCWs).
METHODS: All visits by HCWs to selected patient rooms were recorded for 3 days and 2 nights. Additionally, 5 nurses were observed for 1 day each and 2 nurses were observed for 1 night each. Nurses were observed for their entire shifts and all of their activities were recorded.

PURPOSE: To report a complication of aerosol saline use in a contact lens wearer.
METHODS: Case report. A 57-year-old woman who used soft contact lenses on an extended-wear basis developed a unilateral Pseudomonas corneal ulcer associated with the use of preservative-free aerosol saline.
RESULTS: The solution inside the aerosol can was free of microbial contamination. The spray tip, however, was contaminated with P aeruginosa.
