OBJECTIVE: To report the clinical findings and management of spontaneous hemorrhage in an unsuspected intraorbital arteriovenous malformation.
DESIGN: Interventional case report.

PURPOSE: To establish whether the presentation of choroidal and ciliary body melanomas and patient survival have changed during the period 1955-2000.

Using Fos immunohistochemistry as a marker of cellular activity, we have shown that neurons in the suprachiasmatic nucleus of fetal sheep are active by 75 days gestation. From at least 90 days gestation (term is 146 days), these neurons are more active during the day (12.00) than at night (03.00) when pregnant ewes are exposed to a 12-h light-dark cycle with lights on at 07.00. During a five-year period uveal melanoma was diagnosed in 11 patients in the 6 months after lens-implant surgery. Pre-operatively all but one of the patients had bilateral senile cataract. Seven patients with malignant melanoma of the choroid or ciliary body were initially managed with radiation therapy, either teletherapy with proton or cobalt 60 external beam, or brachytherapy with the insertion of an episcleral plaque containing iodine 125, 60Co or gold 198. BACKGROUND: Pythium keratitis is a difficult-to-treat corneal infection.
METHODS: A meta-analysis of individual patient data from observational studies of Pythium keratitis was performed. The outcomes of interest were therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty (TPK) and globe removal (evisceration, enucleation, or exenteration); the main exposures were linezolid and azithromycin use.

Ophthalmic plaque radiotherapy has been demonstrated to be a useful alternative to enucleation in the treatment of small choroidal melanomas. The prognosis for tumours larger than 8 mm in height, however, continues to be poor. Treatment complications limit the radiation dose which may be delivered to these larger tumours. OBJECTIVE: Chemokines have a range of biologic activities, including regulation of leukocyte trafficking, modulation of hematopoietic cell proliferation, and adhesion to extracellular matrix molecules. Specifically, B-lymphocyte chemoattractant (BLC); BCA-1; CXCL13, SCYB13) and stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1, CXCL12, SCYB12) are chemotactic for human B cells, and their ligands CXCR4 and CXCR5 are differentially expressed on B cells, including malignant B cells.
