Inferior Vena Cava Filter Migration to the Left Internal Iliac Vein.

Inferior vena cava filter placement is an important method for managing deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremities and has a high risk of pulmonary embolism. Filter migration is rare but potentially fatal. We describe a case of migration of an inferior vena cava filter to the left internal iliac vein. The filter perforated the internal iliac vein, resulting in hemorrhagic shock, and was removed with open surgery. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of migration of an inferior vena cava filter to an internal iliac vein.

Migration of metal clips into the duodenum after laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A report of two cases.

Migration of metal clips into the duodenum after laparoscopic cholecystectomy is rare. We herein present two cases of migration of metal clips into the duodenum in patients who developed upper quadrant discomfort and a poor appetite after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Gastroscopy revealed metal clips in the duodenum. In one patient, the clip dropped from the duodenum after 2 months; the other patient went to another institution to undergo duodenotomy. The mechanism underlying migration of a metal clip into the duodenum remains unclear but might be related to chronic inflammation and duodenal p

Bone cement cardiac and pulmonary embolism.

This case describes a complication of bone cement use. A 65-year-old male patient with back spine trauma caused by a fall, underwent a percutaneous vertebroplasty. Five years later, he consulted for palpitations, and the electrocardiogram showed supraventricular arrhythmia. A transthoracic two-dimensional echocardiography showed a hyperechogenic linear structure of 7 cm length, running from the lateral wall of the right ventricle to the right atrium through the tricuspid valve. This foreign body, which was suspicious for bone cement embolism, appeared rigid and was attached at the lateral wall

Delay in diagnosis and lessons learnt from a case of abdominal wall abscess caused by fishbone perforation.

Complications following foreign body (FB) ingestion are an uncommon clinical problem. A 59-year-old man presented with a 4-week history of left iliac fossa pain and 1 episode of dark red blood mixed with stools. Inflammatory markers were elevated, and computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen and pelvis showed an ill defined abdominal wall inflammatory collection in close contact with the small bowel loops. He was treated with antibiotics, and follow-up CT, colonoscopy and small bowel enema were mostly unremarkable. The patient presented again ten months later with left iliac fossa cellulitis an

Comparison of efficacy and safety between a segmental thermo-expandable metal alloy spiral stent (Memokath 051) and a self-expandable covered metallic stent (UVENTA) in the management of ureteral obstructions.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy and safety of the Memokath 051™ (PNN Medical, Glostrup, Denmark) and UVENTA™ (Taewoong Medical, Seoul, Korea) metal stents, we reviewed our experience with these two metallic ureteral stents for treating benign and malignant ureteral obstructions. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Twenty-seven patients who received treatment with metallic ureteral stents (Memokath 051, 10 patients; UVENTA, 17 patients) from November 2011 to May 2013 at our institution were identified and analyzed. We conducted a comparative analysis of the causes of obstruction, technical/clinical suc

Endobronchial valve placement for the treatment of bronchopleural fistula: a review of the current literature.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Bronchopleural fistula is a cause of increased morbidity and mortality. Patients who develop bronchopleural fistula after lung resection or spontaneous pneumothorax often have multiple co-morbidities making them poor candidates for repeated surgical intervention. Previous nonsurgical treatments for bronchopleural fistula have had limited success. Endobronchial valves, originally designed for bronchoscopic lung volume reduction, have been used under a humanitarian use exception for the treatment of bronchopleural fistula. Numerous case series and reports have been published;

Long-term complication after rhinoplasty using porous polyethylene implant: cutaneous fistula of the forehead.

UNLABELLED: Nasal dorsum augmentation is one of the most frequently performed procedures during rhinoplasty, especially in Asians and reconstructive cases. One can use autogenous cartilage grafts or alloplastic implants for this purpose. However, the potential for permanent damage to the skin and soft tissues as well as complications such as infection and extrusion of the implant make autogenous tissue augmentation preferable to alloplastic implantation. Furthermore, there is scant literature information about long-term outcomes and complications related to these implants. This brief report ai

Unrecognised guide wire migration during internal jugular cannulation and its retrieval--a case report.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The objective of this article is to report a case of unrecognised missed guide wire diagnosed two months after right internal jugular cannulation and which was successfully retrieved from the right femoral vein. PATIENT AND METHODS: The case record of a patient that had retained intravenous guide wire was reviewed with relevant literature. RESULT: A 40-yr-old female had an emergency left thoracotomy on account of haemorrhagic pleural effusion. A right internal jugular central venous catheter (CVC) insertion was performed for resuscitation and haemodynamic monitoring befo

Infusion of noradrenaline through the proximal line of a migrated central venous catheter.

A 41-year-old, obese, patient was admitted to Accident and Emergency with a history of leg cellulitis. A central line was inserted. Documented aspiration of blood from all lines, central venous pressure trace obtained and correct position noted on the chest X-ray (CXR). The patient became increasingly septic despite antibiotic therapy. He was subsequently commenced on a noradrenaline infusion; however, the blood pressure was unresponsive. On admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), it was noted he had an area of white skin over the right clavicle. The infusions were stopped and a CXR confir

Unusual cisternal coil migration in the follow-up period after aneurysm perforation during endovascular coiling.

A 61-year-old woman suffered cisternal coil migration in the follow-up period after endovascular coil embolization for a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. She presented with sudden onset of headache. Computed tomography demonstrated diffuse subarachnoid hemorrhage, and cerebral angiography disclosed a left anterior choroidal artery aneurysm. The aneurysm was treated by endovascular embolization with Guglielmi detachable coils. During the embolization procedure, the microcatheter perforated the aneurysm. For direct closure of the perforation site with coils, the microcatheter was withdrawn and coils

A surgical case of delayed coil migration after balloon-assisted embolization of an intracranial broad-neck aneurysm: case report.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Balloon-assisted coil placement is an important technique for coil embolization of broad-neck aneurysms. With this technique, we can prevent coil migration into a parent artery during a procedure. Complications of intraprocedural coil migration have been reported in the literature. However, delayed coil migration is extremely rare. We present a case of delayed coil migration after balloon-assisted coil embolization and describe our management of this complication. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 59-year-old man presented with hypertension and a tension headache. Clinical e

Double-plate fixation in lateral clavicle fractures-a new strategy.

BACKGROUND: Lateral clavicle fractures Neer type II often lead to the dislocation of the medial fragment and an increased rate of nonunion after conservative treatment. Therefore, most authors recommend an open reduction and internal fixation. Double-plate fixation is a common technique in the treatment of complex radius fractures. The authors use it as a routine procedure in the treatment of lateral clavicle fractures Neer type II. In this article, we present our experiences. METHODS: From January 2006 to June 2008, 11 patients with lateral clavicle fractures of Neer type II were treated wit

Pure transvaginal removal of eroded mesh and retained foreign body in the bladder.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: We present a pure transvaginal approach to the removal of eroded mesh and a retained foreign body involving the bladder secondary to placement of transvaginal mesh for management of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) using a mesh kit. METHODS: Transvaginal excision of mesh erosion involving the bladder after mesh placement using a prolapse kit was performed. A U-shaped incision was made in the anterior vaginal wall; mesh was identified, divided in the midline, and then dissected from the bladder. Additionally, a retained foreign body was removed from the bladder. The bla

Migration of a distal shunt catheter into the heart and pulmonary artery: report of a case and review of the literature.

INTRODUCTION: A rare complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement is the proximal migration of the distal catheter into the heart and pulmonary artery. There have been 12 reported cases regarding intracardiac migration. In five of the cases, the catheter traveled further into the pulmonary vasculature. CASE REPORT: The authors report another case regarding the latter situation where the catheter tip localized in a right upper lobe pulmonary arterial branch. Removal of the catheter was complicated by redundancy of the catheter and a knot along the catheter. Nevertheless, extraction was
