Small Cell (Neuroendocrine) Carcinoma of the Cervix: An Analysis for 19 Cases and Literature Review.

Cervical SCNEC is a rare and highly malignant invasive tumor. The incidence is low, at less than 5% of all cervical cancers. Moreover, most patients with small cell carcinoma are interrelated with high risk HPV (more familiar HPV 18). Compared to squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma, patients of cevical SCNEC are more prone to lymph node invasion early, so the clinical manifestation is usually local or distant metastasis. We summarized the clinical features of 19 patients with cervical small cell carcinoma in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University from 2012 to 2021, a

Risk factors for colonization and infection with multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in intensive care unit: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Infection with resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (RPA) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is known to be either endogenous or exogenous or both, but the roles of each of these contamination routes are yet to be clarified. Data regarding prevalence, risk factors, and environmental factors associated with RPA in ICU are very scanty and even when they exist, they seem to be contradictory. So, there is a strong interest in understanding both individual and environmental factors associated with RPA infection. This systematic review aims to investigate individual and environmental factors a

Nutritional interventions to support acute mTBI recovery.

UNLABELLED: When mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) occurs following an impact on the head or body, the brain is disrupted leading to a series of metabolic events that may alter the brain's ability to function and repair itself. These changes may place increased nutritional demands on the body. Little is known on whether nutritional interventions are safe for patients to implement post mTBI and whether they may improve recovery outcomes. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a systematic review to determine what nutritional interventions have been prescribed to humans diagnosed with mTBI

Assessment of Staphylococcal Clinical Isolates from Periprosthetic Joint Infections for Potential Bacteriophage Therapy.

BACKGROUND: Bacteriophage therapy is a potential adjunctive treatment for periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) given the capabilities of bacteriophages to degrade biofilms, self-replicate, and lyse bacteria. However, many aspects of this therapeutic are ill-defined, and the narrow spectrum of bacteriophage activity along with limited available bacteriophage strains curb potential use for specific bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus at the present time. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of using bacteriophages for PJI by (1) categorizing the causative organi

Identification of promising molecules against MurD ligase from Acinetobacter baumannii: insights from comparative protein modelling, virtual screening, molecular dynamics simulations and MM/PBSA analysis.

Acinetobacter baumannii, an opportunistic bacterium of the multidrug-resistant (MDR) ESKAPE family of pathogens, is responsible for 2-10% infections associated with all gram-negative bacteria. The hospital-acquired nosocomial infections caused by A.baumannii include deadly diseases like ventilator-associated pneumonia, bacteremia, septicemia and urinary tract infections (UTI). Over the last 3 years, it has evolved into multiple strains demonstrating high antibiotic resistance against a wide array of antibiotics. Hence, it becomes imperative to identify novel drug-like molecules to treat such i

The therapeutic effect of high-volume hemofiltration on sepsis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Sepsis remains the leading cause of death in the intensive care unit (ICU), despite the treatment of sepsis has progressed. As a mode in continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) has been widely used in the treatment of sepsis. Whether high ultrafiltrate volume in CVVH is beneficial for sepsis survival remains controversial. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the treatment effect of high-volume hemofiltration (HVHF) on sepsis. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted on the Medline, Embase, and Cochrane
