Twenty-four children with giant congenital melanocytic nevi underwent brain MRI at 1.5 T scanner. Melanin deposits in the brain were found in seven children (29.2%) located in temporal lobes, thalamus, cerebellum, and pons. One patient showed leptomeningeal involvement. Six patients were asymptomatic, and one had epilepsy. As opposed to previous reports, localization of skin nevi on anterior part of trunk was correlated to central nervous system involvement. In all patients with brain involvement skin nevi showed picture of compound nevus with neurofibromatic component.

CASES REPORT: We report the cases of 2 women with a pigmented tumour in the ciliary body, one a melanocytoma and the other a melanoma, with different clinical manifestations. The first one presented with decreased visual acuity associated with recent growth of the tumour, as well as sectorial opacities of the lens and subluxation. BACKGROUND: Giant congenital melanocytic naevi (GCMN) convey a 14-fold increased melanoma risk. In contrast, medium congenital melanocytic naevi (MCMN) are rarely associated with malignant transformation. BACKGROUND: We compare features of two similar nevi which may be confused with melanoma: deep penetrating nevus (DPN), and nevus with focal atypical epithelioid component (NFAEC).

Proliferative nodules arising within congenital melanocytic nevi often present a diagnostic challenge given a close resemblance to melanoma. Several morphologic variants have been characterized. In difficult cases, ancillary molecular tests can be used to better exclude the possibility of malignant degeneration. Herein, we report a case of an unusual proliferative nodule with overlapping features of angiomatoid Spitz tumor and ancient melanocytic nevus, which demonstrated normal findings on both chromosomal microarray and a gene expression profiling assay.
